OBITUARIES:

Annie Laura Burks

   (ROANOKE) Annie Laura Burks, 71, of Roanoke died Thursday, May 27, 2004, 
at her home.
   Services were Monday, May 31, at 1 p.m. at Sweet Home Baptist Church, Five
Points, with the Rev. Allen Simpson and the Rev. Lonnie B. Houston officiating. 
Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Survivors include three daughters, Fannie M. Hutchinson and Catherine Trammell 
of Five Points and Barbara A. Johnson of Roanoke; a sister, Mattie M. Dean of 
Roanoke; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death 
by her husband, Thomas H. Burks; a son, John T. Burks; a brother, Lonnie 
Sheppard Jr.; and a granddaughter, Felicia Burks.
   Arrangements were by Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke.

Curtis Merlin Daniel

   (RANBURNE) Services for Curtis Merlin Daniel 71, of Ranburne will be
Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at 1 p.m. at Freedom Baptist Church in Ranburne with
the Revs. Darell Green and Jackie Taylor officiating.  Burial will be in
Carrollton City Cemetery in Carrollton, Ga., with Rainwater Funeral Home of
Bowdon, Ga. in charge.
   Mr. Daniel died Monday, May 31, at Regional Medical Center.
   Survivors include his wife, Eva Eason Daniel; two sons, Tony Daniel of
Ranburne and Gary Daniel, of Carrollton; a daughter, Charlotte Maier of
Greenville, Ga.; and a sister, Linda Hightower of Carrollton.
   Pallbearers will be Johnny Fordham, Burt Fordham, Benji Fordham, Joe Maier
and Clarence Bowen.
   Mr. Daniel, a Randolph County native, was a retired salesman with Five Star
Modular Homes and was a former car salesman.  He was a member of Freedom Baptist
Church and of Carrollton Masonic Lodge.  He was preceded in death by his
parents, William and Mattie Whitmore Daniel; two daughters, Teressa Skinner and
Vicky Daniel; two brothers, Albert Daniel and Jimmy Daniel.

Mattie E. Bailey

   (WADLEY) Mattie E. Bailey, 56, of Wadley died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at
Bethany House in Auburn.
   Funeral services were Tuesday, June 1, at 2 p.m. CDT at Hopewell Baptist
Church in Wadley with the Rev. Calvin Trammell, pastor, officiating.  Burial
followed at Bailey Cemetery in Wadley.
   She is survived by her husband, Fletcher Bailey of Wadley; two sons, Terry
Brooks of Roanoke and James Avery of Wadley; one daughter, Mary Whittenburg of
Opelika; four brothers, George Lloyd and Jimmy Joe Lloyd of LaFayette, Johnny
Lloyd of Lanett and Bobby Lloyd of Detroit, Mich.; one sister, Rosie Jane
Holloway of LaFayette; and 11 grandchildren.
   Mrs. Bailey was born Jan. 26, 1948, in Chambers County.  She was a member of
St. John United Methodist Church in LaFayette.
   Arrangements were by Silmon/Seroyer Funeral Home, LaFayette.

Myrtice Carter Newell

   (LINEVILLE) Graveside services for Myrtice Carter Newell, 80, of Fresno,
Calif., were at 2 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2004, at Mt. Prospect Baptist Church in
Randolph County with Joe Wright officiating and Benefield Funeral Home of
Lineville in charge.
   Mrs. Newell died Thursday, May 27, at Hinds Hospice in Fresno. 
   Survivors include two sisters, Mary Carpenter of North Carolina and Loyette
Daughtery of Lineville; three brothers, Curtis Carter of Lineville, Sebron
Carter of California and James Carter of Delta; and several grandchildren and
nieces and nephews.
   Mrs. Newell was a Clay County native.  She had lived for many years in
California, where she worked as a nurse's aide.

Jewell Hancock Daniel

   (KENNESAW, Ga.) Jewell H. Daniel, 78, of Kennesaw, Ga., formerly of LaGrange,
Ga., and West Point, Ga., died Thursday, May 27, 2004, in Kennesaw.
   Graveside services were Saturday, May 29, at 11 a.m. at Shadowlawn Cemetery
in LaGrange with the Rev. Joe Watson officiating.
   She is survived by one son, Ben Daniel Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; one
daughter, Judy Brendle of Kennesaw; one grandson; and two sisters, Ilene Hancock
and Vicie Holsombeck, both of LaGrange.
   Mrs. Daniel was born July 30, 1925, in Randolph County, Ala., the daughter of
the late James A. and Leona Huddleston Hancock.  She was a homemaker and a
loving mother.  Mrs. Daniel was a long-time member of First United Methodist
Church in West Point.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin S.
Daniel Sr.
   Arrangements were by Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home, LaGrange.

Lellie Bennett

   (HELFIN) Services for Lellie Bennett, 86, of Heflin were at 2 p.m. Tuesday,
June 1, 2004, at Morrison's Chapel in Wedowee with the Rev. G. K. Abner
officiating.
   Mrs. Bennett died Saturday, May 29, at her home.
   Survivors include her daughter, Debra Martin of Heflin; a son, Rick Bennett
of Heflin; a sister, Mellie Pitts of Delta; four grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Lowell Durham, Ronnie Morrison, Don Morrison, Cellon Dodson
and Darrell Durham. 
   Mrs. Bennett, a native of Randolph County, lived in Cleburne County for most
of her life.  She was a member of Morrison's Chapel Methodist Church.
   Arrangements were by Dryden Funeral Home.

William A. Watson

   (ASHVILLE) William A. Watson, 82, of Ashville died Sunday, May 30, 2004.
   Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at Shiloh Baptist Church, with
the Rev. Terry Tibbs and the Rev. Stanley Daniel officiating.  Burial will be in
Shiloh Cemetery.
   Mr. Watson was a native of Heflin, lived most of his life in Roanoke, and was
a resident of Ashville for the past ten years.  He was a member of Shiloh
Baptist Church.  Mr. Watson loved to work in his garden and he had a "green
thumb."  He was predeceased by a daughter, Virginia Haley, and son, Kenneth
Watson.
   Survivors include his wife, Helen Watson of Ashville; three daughters,
Shirley Cone of Ashville and Brenda Watson and Judy Scott of LaGrange, Ga.; two
sons, Larry Watson of Ashville and Jerry Watson of Rainbow City; a sister, Ethel
Watson of Heflin; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
   Arrangements are by Morgan Funeral Chapel, Ashville.

James Willard Taylor

   (WEDOWEE) Services for James Willard Taylor, 76, of Wedowee were Saturday,
May 29, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Friendship Christian Church, with the Rev. Joe Bob
Traylor and the Rev. Johnny Foster officiating.  Burial was at Midway United
Methodist Cemetery.
   Mr. Taylor died Tuesday, May 25, at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.
   Survivors include his wife, June Pollard Taylor; one daughter, Cynthia Taylor
Lamutt of Marietta, Ga.; two sons, Lawrence Taylor and Jerome Taylor of Roanoke;
six grandchildren; one sister, Kathryn Bailey of Lanett; four brothers, Thomas
Taylor of Wedowee, Ronald Taylor and Wayne Taylor of Roanoke, and Winters Taylor
of Woodland.
   Pallbearers were Sammy Hill, Kyle Neal, Terry Bridges, Jeff Pollard, Eli
Taylor, Scott Taylor and Bob Taylor.
   Mr. Taylor was born July 11, 1927, son of Orvin Taylor and Florence Haynes
Taylor.  He was a member of Friendship Christian Church and was retired from
Palm Beach Company.
   Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

Hugh Jackson Edwards

   (COLUMBUS, Ga.) Services for Hugh Jackson Edwards, 87, of Columbus, Ga., were
Friday, May 28, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roger
Woodard officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Edwards died Tuesday, May 25, at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus.
   Survivors include two daughters, Rita Joyce Echols of Douglasville, Ga., and
Angela Harrington of Lithia Springs, Ga.; one sister, Pearlie Johnston of
Bowdon, Ga.; four brothers, Auell Edwards of Bessemer, Grady Edwards of Newell,
Robert Edwards of Woodland and Charles Edwards of Oxford, four grandchildren;
and four great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were members of the Edwards family. 
   A Cleburne County native, Mr. Edwards was born Nov. 1, 1916, son of William
and Elizabeth Hale Edwards.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise
Benefield Edwards.
   Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

Archie Cushing

   (NEWELL) Memorial services for Archie Cushing, 47, of Newell were at 2 p.m.
Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Potter's House Assembly of God in Randolph County.
   Mr. Cushing died Tuesday, May 25, at his home.
   Survivors include three brothers, Lewis Cushing and Albert Cushing of Newell
and Wayne Cushing of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
   Mr. Cushing was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Alma Miles
Cushing; and two brothers, Jimmy Cushing and Dale Cushing.

James Franklin Barber

   (TALLADEGA) Services for James Franklin Barber, 71, of Talladega were at 2
p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Usrey Funeral Home with the Rev. James A.
Woodin officiating.  Burial was in Pine Hill Memorial Park.
   Mr. Barber died Monday, May 24, at his home.
   Survivors include his wife, Beulah E. Barber; four daughters, Brenda Finn of
Childersburg, Nannette Williams of Homewood, Pamela Hubbard of Pensacola, Fla.,
and Betina Lowe of Pegram, Tenn.; a son, Jimmy Barber of Roanoke; nine
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Jimmy Norred, Roy Champion, Charles Ball, James Pruet,
Hubert Harville, Chuck Hubbard and Stevan Williams.
   Mr. Barber, a Talladega native and lifelong resident, was a member of
Bemiston United Methodist Church.  A Korean War veteran, he retired from Barber
Sales.  He was a member of American Legion.

Barbara Lee Veal Burroughs

   (ATLANTA, Ga.) Barbara Lee Veal Burroughs, 77, of Atlanta died Sunday, May
30, 2004, at Athena Rehab of Clayton, Lake City, Ga.
   Services will be Thursday, June 3, at 1 p.m. at Mount Olive United Methodist
Church, Wadley, with the Rev. Hollis Boykin and the Rev. Fredrick R. Gray
officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   Survivors include a sister, Willie Ruth Veal of Wadley, a nephew, Otis Wright
Jr. of Roanoke; four nieces, including Earnestine Gooden and Sue Nell Pinkard of
Wedowee; and a host of other relatives and friends.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Burroughs; and her parents,
Lorena Rowe Veal and William Veal.
   Public viewing will be at Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke, from 10
a.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday.  The body will be placed in the church one hour
before the funeral services.
   Arrangements are by Clark Memorial Funeral Service.

Mary Ann Hammond

   (LANETT) Mary Ann Hammond, 91, of Lanett died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at
Lanier Nursing Home.
   Mrs. Hammond was born in Big Springs on Aug. 27, 1912, daughter of the late
Newell and Julie Moses Young.  She was a retired employee of the Playtex
Corporation and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
   Surviving are 10 nieces, including Annie Lanier of Big Springs and Novis
Alsabrook of Roanoke; and three nephews.  She was preceded, in death by her
husband, Hoyt D. Hammond.
   Services were at Calvary Baptist Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, with
burial in Resthaven Cemetery.  Dr. Kenneth Overby and the Rev. Gerald Sikes
officiated.
   Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home, Valley.

OBITUARIES:

Cora Wade Dodson

   (HEFLIN) Cora Wade Dodson, 96, of Heflin died Sunday, June 6, 2004, in
Cleburne County Nursing Home.
   She was born in Cleburne County Feb. 20, 1908, daughter of the late George T.
and Ava Thompson Wade.  She was a member of Pinetucky Baptist Church and was a
homemaker.
   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Trummie
Dodson; sons Lowell Dodson and Freddie Dodson; daughter, Betty Faye Dodson; and
a grandson Tony Dodson.
   Survivors include sons Dowell Dodson of Woodland and Jack Dodson of Ranburne;
17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a
sister, Dorothy Hudson of Anniston.
   Services were Tuesday, June 8, at 3 p.m. EDT at Rainwater Funeral Home
Chapel, Bowdon, Ga., with the Rev. Keith Dodson and the Rev. Billy Saxon
officiating.  Interment was in Pinetucky Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family
requests that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to Rainwater Funeral Home,

Orvel Willard 'Buck' Fordham

   (MUSCADINE) Services for Orvel Willard "Buck" Fordham, 69, of Muscadine will
be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Hurricane Methodist Church with Pat
Patterson officiating.  Burial will be in Hurricane Cemetery.
   Mr. Fordham died Sunday, June 6, at Hospice LaGrange.
   Survivors include five sisters, Nadine Horton of Wedowee, Geraldine Yancey of
Carrollton, Ga., Eva Langford of West Point, Ga., and Edith Walls and Leatrice
Fordham, both of Heflin; and two brothers, Clarence Fordham of Heflin and Coy
Fordham of Ranburne.
   Pallbearers will be nephews.
   Mr. Fordham, a lifelong Cleburne County resident, was a member of East Side
Baptist Church in Carrollton.  He had been a rubber manufacturing laborer.  He
was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Vinson and Hazel Fordham; a
brother, Vinson Fordham; and a sister, Magelene Brown.
   Arrangements were by Dryden Funeral Home, Heflin.

Frances Crowder Foster

   (ROANOKE) Services fro [for] Frances Crowder Foster, 90, of Roanoke were
Sunday, June 6, 2004, at 11:30 a.m. at Rock Mills Church of the Nazarene with
the Rev. Franklin D. Foster and the Rev. Rob Hicks officiating.  Burial was at
Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Foster died Thursday, June 3, at her son's home.
   Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Joyce Hicks of Roanoke; one son, the
Rev. Franklin D. Foster Sr. of Roanoke; two sisters, Magalene Ledbetter of
Umatilla, Fla., and Agnes Hammonds of Trion, Ga.; eight grandchildren; 22
great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
   A Randolph County native, Mrs. Foster was born April 5, 1914, daughter of
Marion H. and Annie Lee Phillips Crowder.  She was a member of Rock Mills Church
of the Nazarene and was retired from Rock Mills School.  She was preceded in
death by her husband, Wilner Eugene Foster; and one son, William Lamar Foster.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

David Jasper Jenkins

   (JACKSONVILLE) Services for the Rev. David Jasper Jenkins, 81, of
Jacksonville were Saturday, June 7, 2004, at 7 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Funeral
Home.  Burial was Sunday at Anniston Memorial Gardens.
   Rev. Jenkins died Friday, June 4, at his home.
   Survivors include his wife, Sara B. Jenkins of Jacksonville, a daughter,
Miriam J. Thornton of Jacksonville; one grandson; two sisters, Christine Jenkins
and Annice Morrow of Richland, Miss.; and two brothers, Alton Jenkins of
Springfield, Tenn., and Halbert Jenkins of Austell, Ga.
   Honorary pallbearers were Rev. Jenkins's fellow ministers.
   Rev. Jenkins was a member and a retired minister of the Church of the
Nazarene.  He had held pastorates in Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, Mississippi and
Tennessee.  He was also retired from Chambers County Board of Education.
   The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to
Anniston Church of the Nazarene or New Beacon Hospice.
   Arrangements were by Anniston Memorial Funeral Home, Anniston.

Charles Lester Sprayberry

   (NEWELL) Charles Lester Sprayberry, 68, of Newell, formerly of Atlanta, died
Tuesday, May 25, 2004.
   Mrs. Sprayberry was born Jan. 6, 1936.  He was a retired member of Plumbers
and Steam Fitters Local #72 for 45 years and served in the United States
Airforce [sic].
   He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gayle McIntosh Sprayberry; three
daughters, Debbie Millican of Heflin, Tonya G. Sprayberry of Birmingham and Toby
S. Hanner of Stockbridge, Ga.; two grandchildren; two brothers, H. O. Sprayberry
of Decula [sic], Ga., and William J. Sprayberry of Stockbridge; and one sister, Bobbie
Sue Joiner of Decula; and nieces and nephews.
   Services were Thursday, May 27, at 3:30 p.m. at Ward's Fairview Chapel,
Stockbridge, Ga., with the Rev. Joe Hughes officiating.  Interment was in
Masters Cemetery.
   Arrangements were by Horis A. Ward Funeral Home, Stockbridge.

Earl C. Keeble

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Earl C. Keeble, 89, of LaGrange, Ga., died Thursday, June 3,
2004, at Hospice LaGrange.
   Mr. Keeble, born Nov. 5, 1914, in Randolph County, Ala., was the son of the
late Byrd and Dora Cottle Keeble.  He lived in LaGrange most of his life,
retired from Callaway Mills and was the owner/operator of Keeble Service Center
and Keeble's Corner BBQ.  He was manager of the American Legion Golf Shop and
past president of the Georgia Association of Petroleum Retailers.  He was a
member of First Presbyterian Church, where he was a deacon.
   Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Bittinger of Fayetteville, Ga.; three
sons, Gary Earl Keeble of Dalton, Ga., J. Wallace Keeble of Columbus, Ga., and
Dennis M. Keeble of LaGrange; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and
a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
   Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5, in Shadowlawn Cemetery
with Dr. Douglas DeCelle and Dr. William Conine officiating.
   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice LaGrange in memory
of Mr. Keeble.
   Arrangements were by Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home, LaGrange.

Doris Lester Hicks

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Doris Lester Hicks, 83, of Wedowee were at Woods
Presbyterian Church, Dadeville, on Friday, June 4, 2004, at 11 a.m.  Burial was
in the church cemetery.  The Rev. Mike Samuels and the Rev. Wade Acton
officiated.
   Mrs. Hicks died Wednesday, June 2.
   Mrs. Hicks was born July 9, 1920.  She was a member of Woods Presbyterian
Church and was a veteran of World War II.  She was a graduate of Tallapoosa
County High School and Massey Draughon Business School.  She was preceded in
death by her husband, William Hicks, and parents Jesse Carl and Reba Coker
Lester.
   Pallbearers were Barry Messer, Tony Ray Messer, Lee Messer, Allan Robertson,
Richard White and Hulond Humphries.
   Survivors include seven sisters, Claire L. Leach of Florence, S.C., Evelyn L.
Bailey of Manassas, Va., Wylodene L. White of Dadeville, Colleen. L. Davis of
Jacksons Gap, Virginia L. Yates of New Site, Geneva L. Messer of Wedowee, and
Sandra L. Rodgers of Columbus, Ga.; a brother, Jesse Coker Lester of Lakewood,
Calif.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
   Memorial contributions may be made to Woods Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box

   (ROANOKE) Services for Mary D. Benefield, 87, of Roanoke were Friday, June 4,
2004, at 11 a.m. at Big Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Scott Hannah
officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Mrs. Benefield died Wednesday, June 2, at West Georgia Medical Center,
LaGrange.
   Survivors include three sons, Hugh Benefield of LaGrange, Ga., Don Benefield
of Morrow, Ga., and Michael Benefield of Rex, Ga.; one brother, Drew Bob
Cunningham of Wadley; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Greg Benefield, Shane Benefield, Andy Benefield Steve
Johnson, Brian Lewis and Mike Helms.
   A Randolph County native, Mrs. Benefield was born Nov. 20, 1916, daughter of
Drew Chapman and Minnie Kirby Cunningham.  She was preceded in death by her
husband, Hugh Dorsey Benefield Sr.  Mrs. Benefield was the oldest member of Big
Springs Baptist Church and a retired employee of Lamar Manufacturing.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Walter Polk Burson

   (FRANKLIN, Ga.) Walter Polk Burson, 46, of Franklin, Ga., formerly of
Hogansville, Ga., died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Hospice LaGrange.
   Mr. Burson, born Sept. 28, 1957, in Newnan, Ga., had lived in Franklin for 
13 years.  He was employed at Kemp's Carpets and was a member of Big Springs
Baptist Church in Randolph County, Ala.
   Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Burson of Franklin; a son, Mike Burson
of Lanett; five daughters, Beverly Tyler of West Point, Ga., Stephanie Robertson
of Salem and Erica Pike, Brittany Burson and Brandi Burson, all of Franklin; his
mother, Louise Burson of Hogansville, Ga.; a sister, Kathy McGhee of
Hogansville; and seven grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a
granddaughter, Kelsey Robertson, and his father, Knox H. Burson.
   Funeral services were at 11 a.m. EDT at Big Springs Baptist Church in
Randolph County with the Rev. Scott Hannah officiating.  Burial will be in
Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
   Arrangements were by Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home.

Coleman White

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Coleman White, 79, of Wedowee will be Wednesday, June
9, 2004, at First Baptist Church of Wedowee with the Rev. Pete White, the Rev.
Don Paris and Bro. Bill White officiating.  Mr. White will lie in state one hour
before service.  Burial will follow in Wedowee City Cemetery.
   Mr. White died Monday, June 7, at his home.
   Mr. White is survived by his wife, Mary W. White; one daughter, Susan Baldwin

   Mrs. Frames died Sunday, May 30, at Baptist Montclair Medical Center in
Birmingham.
   Survivors include two daughters, Lynne Frames and Candi Frames, both of
Delta; three sisters, Edna Character of Lineville, Willie Senciboy of Oxford and
Ellen Key of Delta; five brothers, Ellis Craven of Oxford, Jim Craven of
Jacksonville, C. B. Craven of Roanoke, Sherald Craven of Pensacola, Fla., and
Wayne Craven of Hamilton, Miss.; and two grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Jason Craven, Roger Easterwood, William Character, Byron
Clarke, Dusty Craven, Bryan McCormack, Calvin Hill and Willie Bachus.  Honorary
pallbearers were Ladies Fellowship Circle of Liberty Hill United Methodist
Church.
   Mrs. Frames, a Randolph County native and longtime Clay County resident, was
a member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church in Cleburne County.  She had
worked at Sewell Manufacturing Company in Heflin for a number of years and was a
homemaker.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Frames.

children, Margaret Davis of Roanoke and Elaine Mullen, James Whitaker Jr. and

Ned Treadwell

   (ROANOKE) Services for Ned Treadwell, 79, of Roanoke, formerly of Melbourne,
Fla., were Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at 4 p.m. at Rock Stand Christian Church,
with the Rev. Bill Phares officiating.  Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Treadwell died Saturday, June 12, at Randolph Medical Center.
   Survivors include his wife, Alma Knight Treadwell of Roanoke; one daughter,
Janice T. Lott of Melbourne, Fla.; two brothers, Ray Treadwell and Billy
Treadwell of Roanoke; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
   Nephews served as pallbearers.
   The family suggests memorial contributions to First United Methodist Church
Family Life Center or Rock Stand Christian Church Cemetery fund.
   A Randolph County native, Mr. Treadwell was born May 13, 1925, son of Henry
and Elmer Brewer Treadwell.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

   Mrs. Wilkinson died Thursday, June 10, at Traylor Nursing Home.

Doris Wilkinson of Ft. Valley and Bettye McBride of Fairfield Day, Ark.; three
sisters, Vernice Hammond, Jean Smith, and Tina Mae Smith of Roanoke; one
brother, Earl Smith of Roanoke; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
   A Randolph County native, Mrs. Wilkinson was born Oct. 10, 1909, daughter of
James Monroe and Emma Whitley Smith.  She was a member of Rock Mills Methodist
Church and a retired teacher with Randolph County Board of Education.

Robert Wilburn Smitherman

   (WOODLAND) Funeral services for Robert Wilburn Smitherman, 73, of Woodland,
were Friday, June 11, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev.
Chris Mitchell officiating.  Burial followed at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery
with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements.
   Mr. Smitherman died Tuesday, June 8, at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital.
   Mr. Smitherman is survived by two daughters, Syble Rogers of Woodland and
Betty Pool of Wedowee; four grandchildren; a sister-in-law; one brother, Harold
Smitherman of Miami; and five great-grandchildren.
   Mr. Smitherman was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Bessemer, son of Wilburn Smitherman
and Mae Ellen Tolbert.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a cook in
the U.S. Army.  Mr. Smitherman was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy
Smitherman.

   (LINEVILLE) Services for Justin Marvin McVey, 21, of Lineville were at 2 p.m.

cemetery.  Mr. McVey died Tuesday, June 8.

of Alexander City and Tim McVey and Will McVey, both of Lineville; his fiancee,
Kerri Sims of Lineville; and his grandparents, Bill and Faye McVey.

   Mr. McVey was a Clay County native and lifelong resident.

Brenton C. 'Red' Latham

   (VALLEY) Brenton C. "Red" Latham, 86, of Valley died Wednesday, June 9, 2004,
at his residence.
   Funeral services were Friday, June 11, at 11 a.m. at Johnson Brown-Service
Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Dennis Herron and the Rev. Tom
Roberts officiating.  Buria[l] followed at Fairfax Cemetery.
   He is survived by his wife, Annie Conaway Latham; three children, Carolyn
Craven of Roanoke, Brenda Graber of Marietta, Ga., and Linda Robinson of Valley;
four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Clessie Freeman of
Valley; and two brothers, Brewer Latham of Valley and Elmer Latham of Valley.
   Mr. Latham was born May 12, 1918, in Clay County.  He was the son of the late
Ioma Luker Latham and Charley Latham.  He was a member of the Civilian
Conservation Corp (CCC) during World War II and was a retired employee of
WestPoint Pepperell's Fairfax Mill.  He was a member of Fairfax United Methodist
Church.
   Mr. Latham was preceded in death by his sister, Kytha Woodruff, his brother,
Barney Latham; and a grandson, Ken Craven.
   Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Chattahoochee Hospice or
to Fairfax United Methodist Church in his memory.

   (WADLEY) David Samuel Hill, 80, of Wadley died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at
East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.
   Services will be at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church, Wedowee, on
Wednesday, June 16, at 2 p.m., with Elder Thomas Knight officiating.  Interment
will be in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Hill was born Sept. 8, 1923, in Randolph County.  He was a lifelong
member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church.
   Surviving are two sisters, Gatha Yates of Wadley and Lavonia Battle of
Detroit, Mich., and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews,
other relatives and friends.

   (DEARING, Ga.) Daisy Brinkley, 80, of Dearing, Ga., died Thursday, June 10,
2004, at her residence.

   Mrs. Brinkley was a native of Wilkes County, Ga., but had lived in Dearing

Greene of Dearing, and Jane Strickland of Evans, Ga.; eight grandchildren and 16
great-grandchildren.

brothers Danny J. Beck and David R. Beck; sister Peggy Beck Dovel; 10
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and a special friend, Mr. Jesse Hall.

Herman M. Kellum

   (OXFORD) Services for Herman M. Kellum, 79, of Oxford were Monday, June 21,
2004 at 2 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church in Cragford, with the Revs. Tim Edwards
and Burgess Austin officiating.  Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Kellum died Saturday, June 19, at Regional Medical Center in Anniston. 
He was a native of Clay County, but had lived most of his life in Talladega
County in the Oxford area.  He was a U.S. Army veteran and Purple Heart
recipient, having served during World War II in the South Pacific.  He was
retired from Jim Walter/ U.S. Pipe in Anniston, and was a member of Southside
Baptist Church in Oxford.
   He is survived by his wife, Willie Clark Kellum of Oxford; one son, Ronnie
Kellum of Oxford; three sisters, Wincie Ridley of Terrell, Texas, and Carol Jean
Taylor and Brenda Railey of Wadley; one brother, Lindsey Kellum of Alexander
City; and a host of nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were George Williams, Gene Hodnett, Marlin Hunter, Lester Walker,
Fred Railey and Sam Jackson.  Honorary pallbearers were Clifford Kellum, A. N.
Davis, Jr. and Raul Ridley.

   (GADSDEN) Services for R. C. Kelley, 81, of Gadsden were at 1 p.m. Monday,
June 21, 2004, at Collier-Butler Funeral Home Chapel in Gadsden with the Rev.

   Mr. Kelley died Friday, June 18, in Riverview Regional Medical Center in
Gadsden.
   Survivors include his wife, Doris M. Kelley; a daughter, Barbara Nell Long; 
a son, Quinton Kelley; and a stepson, Tim Proctor, all of Odessa, Texas; a
brother, Ira C. Kelley of Gadsden; and nine grandchildren.
   Mr. Kelley, a Randolph County native, had lived in Texas 25 years before
returning to Alabama in 1981.  He was a disabled Army veteran of World War II
and was a Baptist.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillie Mae Bolt
Kelley; a son, Stevie Wayne Kelley; three sisters, Ollie Mae Willett, Velma
Spencer Valere Parris and Beatrice McCurley; and two brothers, Commer Kelley and
Andrew Kelley.

Joe Shelnutt

   (HOGANSVILLE, Ga.) Joe Shelnutt of Hogansville, Ga., died Friday, June 18,
2004, at his residence after a long battle with cancer.
   Mr. Shelnutt was born in Martinsville, Va., and was the, son of the late
Howell Stanley Shelnutt and Annie Mae Turner.  He worked for Callaway Gardens
for many years as a mechanic.  He then became owner/operator of Shelnutt
Trucking, where he retired. Mr. Shelnutt was preceded in death by his sister,
Irma Faye Hogg.
   In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Jeff Shelnutt of
Norcross, Ga.; four grandchildren; five sisters, Edith Pittman of Panama City,
Fla., Peggy Holmes, Janette Finley and Carol Tanner of West Point, Ga., and
Wanda Russell of Shelby; and two brothers, Mae Shelnutt and Wayne Shelnutt.
   Funeral services were at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 20, in the chapel of
Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with the Rev. Lamar Womack officiating.  Burial was in
the Haywood Cemetery in Alabama.

   (WOODLAND) Services for George Robert Gase, 63, of Woodland were Sunday, June

   Mr. Gase died Thursday, June 17, at his home.

Lawrence, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
   Mr. Gase was born May 20, 1940, son of George Robert Gase and Margaret

   (DULUTH, Ga.) Frances Turner England, 76, of Duluth, Ga., died Thursday, 
June 17, 2004.
   Mrs. England, a native of LaGrange, Ga., retired as a nurse from DeKalb
Medical Center and was a member of Norcross Presbyterian Church.
   Survivors include two sons, David England of Lanett and Troy England of
Cumming, Ga.; two daughters, Renee England of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Vicki
Langford of Duluth; a brother, Pete Turner of Roanoke; three sisters, Nancy
Miles and Brenda Lee of LaGrange and JoAnn Coe of Lawrenceville, Ga.; 14
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Seymour died Tuesday, June 15, at DeSoto Memorial Hospital in Arcadia.
   Survivors include his wife, Tommie Seymour of Arcadia; one son, Tim Seymour
of Tallahassee, Fla.; one daughter, Phyllis Wilson of Roanoke; and six
grandchildren.

   A Randolph County native, Mr. Seymour was born April 9, 1922.  He moved to
Arcadia in 1959 from LaGrange, Ga., with the Gulf Naval Store, Stump Plant.  He
had 21-1/2 years in law enforcement in DeSoto County, Fla., where he was an
officer for the Arcadia Police Department from 1965 to 1985.  He served as chief
of police from 1980 to 1984, and he worked for the DeSoto County Sheriffs
Department from 1985 to 1986.  He was a U.S. Army veteran and of Baptist faith.
   Local arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

   She was preceded in death by her father, William T. Gunn, and her sister,
Tammy D. Hallmark. She is survived by daughter, Leah Pharo; a son, Nicholas
Pharo; her mother, Ruby J. Gunn; and a brother, Kenneth Gunn.

   Mrs. Noell died Tuesday, June 15, at Jacksonville Health & Rehabilitation
Center.

great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
   Mrs. Noell, a Randolph County native and longtime Anniston resident, was a

sister.

Wadley and Willie C. Lewis of Mobile; two sisters, Myrtise Walker of Daviston
and Savannah Meadows of Wadley; and two grandchildren.
   Born in Tallapoosa County Nov. 11, 1931, Mrs. Holloway was a member of Colger
Hill C.M.E. Church.

Annie Lucille Wise

   (FRANKLIN, Ga.) Annie Lucille Wise, 92, of Franklin, Ga., died Monday, June
14, 2004, at Franklin Health Care Center.
   Mrs. Wise was born Jan. 11, 1912, in Rock Mills, the daughter of Steve and
Clara Johnson Young.  She had lived in LaGrange from 1958 to 1990, when she
moved to Franklin.  She was a homemaker and former employee of the Oak Leaf Mill
of Callaway Mills.  Mrs. Wise was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
   Mrs. Wise is survived by her son, Tom Wise of Franklin; a sister, Mary Monroe
of Atlanta; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
   Funeral services for Mrs. Wise were at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, in the
chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.  Burial followed in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Mildred Helen Miles

   (LANETT) Mildred Helen Miles, 79, of Lanett died Monday, June 14, 2004 at
Lanier Memorial Hospital, Valley.
   Mrs. Miles was born in Roanoke on July 19, 1924, daughter of the late Pearl
Albright Breed and Roe Breed.  She loved to garden and was an active member of
Lanett Congregational, Christian Church, where she served as deaconess and
Sunday school treasurer.
   Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Helen Pilgrim of Lanett; a son, John
Micheal Miles of Valley; a sister, Ruby Pendal of Smyrna, Ga.; four
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her
husband, J. T. Miles.
   Services were at Lanett Congregational Christian Church at 1 p.m. on
Thursday, June 17, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, in Lanett.  The Rev. Roy
Bain officiated.
   Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home, Valley.

Chief Eddy Ware

   (ROANOKE) Chief Eddy Ware, 46, of Roanoke died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at
Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Mr. Ware was chief of police of LaFayette and that city's first, black police
chief.
   Survivors include his parents, Edward and Earnestine Ware, of Roanoke; his
wife, Sandra Bledsoe-Ware of Roanoke; two sons, Jamal Ware and Ja'Jaun Ware of
Roanoke; and three brothers, Dwight Ware of Charleston, S.C., Dennis Ware of
Conyers, Ga., and the Rev. Eric Ware of Atlanta. 	
   Public viewing will be at Clark Memorial from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday,
June 24.  Services will be Friday, June 25, at, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church,
Riley Street, Roanoke.  Mr. Ware will he in a state one hour prior to services. 
The Revs. Gilbert Staples, Bradley Gipson, William Dillard, Sanford Johnson, N.
Q. Williams, and R. L. Heflin will officiate.
   Arrangements are by Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke.

Bennett A. Samara

   (PANAMA CITY, Fla.) Memorial graveside services for Bennett A. Samara, 45, of
Panama City, Fla., will be Saturday, June 26, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Cedarwood
Cemetery in Roanoke, with the Rev. Bobby Kirby officiating.
   Mr. Samara died Thursday, June 10, in Panama City.
   The family suggests that in lieu of floral contributions, donations be made
to Zion Baptist Church Building Fund, C/O Melissa Traylor, 1160 County Road 464,
Woodland, AL 36280.
   Survivors include six aunts, Joann Garrison of Wewahitchka, Fla., Sue Grant
of Woodland, Judy Damron of Covington, Ga., Jane Baldwin of Arrington, Tenn.,
Alice Stash of Carrollton, Ga., and Patsy Cordell of Harrison, Tenn.; one uncle,
George Knight of Wewahitchka; and a host of cousins.
   Mr. Samara was the son of the late Frank and Betty Knight Samara and the
grandson of the late Ben and Maude Knight.  Mr. Samara had lived in Panama City
for the past 30 years.
   The Yorkshire Cremation and Casket Society of Panama City was in charge of
arrangements.

Franklin Daniel Whitaker Sr.

   (ROANOKE) Services for Franklin Daniel Whitaker Sr., 69, of Roanoke were
Thursday, June 17, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Church of Christ, with Bro.
Wilbur Bass, Bro,[.] Junior Bowen and Bro. W. C. Cofield officiating.  Burial
was in the adjoining church cemetery.  Pallbearers were family members and
friends.
   The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Huntington's
Disease Society of America, 158 West 29th Street, 7th Floor, New York, NY
10001-5300 or 1-800-345-HDSA.
   Mr. Whitaker died on Thursday, June 15, at Pine Knoll Nursing Home in
Carrollton, Ga.
   Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Lila Shelnutt Whitaker of Roanoke;
three sons, Dan Whitaker of Woodland, Harold Whitaker of Roanoke, and Steve
Whitaker of Carrollton; two sisters, Rachel McDaniel and Helen McPherson of
Smyrna, Ga.; a brother, Harold Whitaker of Winston, Ga.; and six grandchildren.
   Mr. Whitaker was a native of Cedartown, Ga., born on Sept. 9, 1934, son of
Frank Marion Whitaker and Lois Worthington Whitaker.  He was retired from the
U.S. Air Force and Georgia Power Company.  He was a veteran of the Korean
Conflict and Vietnam.  He was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ.

Mary Etta Lancaster

   (WOODLAND) Mary Etta Lancaster, 88, of Woodland died Monday, June 21, 2004,
at Roanoke Health Care Center.
   Services were Saturday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at Mount Carmel United Methodist
Church, Woodland, with the Rev. William Crawford officiating.  Interment was in
the church cemetery.
   Mrs. Lancaster was an active member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church. 
She was a seamstress and a certified nursing assistant.
   Mrs. Lancaster is survived by a daughter, Marjorie Jennings of Woodland; a
son, the Rev. Roger Lancaster of Woodland; five grandchildren; four
step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
   Arrangements were by Roanoke Funeral Home.

Catherine Turnham

   (VALLEY) Catherine Turnham, 79, of Valley died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at
Traylor Nursing Home in Roanoke.
   Graveside services were Monday, June 28, at 11 a.m. in Oakwood Cemetery in
Lanett with the Rev. Doug Blackmon officiating.
   Mrs. Turnham is survived by one daughter, Sara Jane Hamlet of Geneva, Ga.;
one son, Jimmy Lee Turnham of Valley; one sister, Irisdean Carmichael of Valley;
one brother, Harvey Carpenter of Valley; eight grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
   Born April 10, 1925, in Troup County, Ga., Mrs. Turnham was the daughter of
the late Cora Bell and Newman Arthur Carpenter.  She was a retired employee of
West Point Pepperell's Fairfax Mill.  Mrs. Turnham was a member of Huguley
Congregational Christian Church.

Gladys Laster Jones

   (LANETT) Gladys Laster Jones, 86, of Lanett died Friday, June 25, 2004, at
Beverly Health Care in Lanett.
   A memorial graveside service was held Sunday, June 27, at 2 p.m. at Shawmut
Cemetery with the Rev. James Harper officiating.
   Mrs. Jones is survived by one daughter, Joyce Laster of Valley; one sister,
Nancy Clanton of Birmingham; and several nieces.
   Mrs. Jones was born May 1, 1918, in Randolph County.  She worked for many
years at the textile lab in Shawmut.  After she moved to Montgomery, she became
a nurse and worked in that field until her retirement.  Mrs. Jones was a member
of Shawmut United Methodist Church.
   Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home, Valley.

Patricia Gardner Johnson

   (ANNISTON) Graveside services for Patricia Gardner Johnson, 67, of Anniston
were at 11 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2004, at Edgemont Cemetery with the Rev. Danny
Sanders officiating and Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory in charge.
   Mrs. Johnson died Saturday, June 26, in Scottsboro.
   Survivors include two daughters, Pam Sheets and Kim Rice, both of Woodland;
two grandchildren; a sister, Judy Easterwood of Bowden, Ga.; three brothers,
Bill Gardner and Steve Gardner, both of Alexandria, and Tom Gardner of Acworth,
Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
   Mrs. Johnson was a native and lifelong resident of the Blue Mountain area.
   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the
Calhoun-Cleburne Mental Health Center, 2100 Leighton Ave., Anniston, AL 36207.

Verbie Newman Brooks

   (ROANOKE) Services for Verbie Newman Brooks, 72 of Roanoke were Monday, June
28, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Baugh
officiating.  Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Brooks died Saturday, June 26, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Survivors include her husband, Harold Brooks of Roanoke; one daughter, Glenda
Brooks of Roanoke; one son, Ken Brooks of Woodland; a sister, Beatrice Maddux of
Lanett; two brothers, Leroy Newman of Roanoke and Kenneth Newman of Atlanta; and
seven grandchildren.
   A Chambers County native, Mrs. Brooks was born Dec. 13, 1931, daughter of
William R. and Dillie Mae Keeble Newman.  She was a member of Handley Avenue
Church of God and had been employed by Clegg Manufacturing Company.  She was
preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Brooks.
   Pallbearers were David Brooks, Mark Newman, Glen Newman, Andrew Newman,
Justin Johnson and Nick Johnson.

Gloria Houze Cown

   (CUMMING, Ga.) Gloria Houze Cown, 68, of Cumming, Ga., died Monday, June 21,
2004.		
   A native of Rock Mills, Ms. Cown lived in Cumming for the past 40 years.  She
was a retired bookkeeper.
   Survivors include her daughters, Cathy Lawson of Knoxville, Tenn., and Stacey
Purdy of Cumming; a son, John Cown of Cartersville, Ga.; a brother, Larry Houze
of Rock Mills; and two grandchildren.
   Services were Wednesday, June 23, at the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral
Home and Crematory, Cumming.

Rebecca Elaine Grant

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Rebecca "Becky" Elaine Grant, 50, Of Wedowee were
Thursday, June 24, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Woodland Church of God, with the Rev.
Carolyn Harmer and the Rev. Jody Overton officiating.  Burial was in Potash
Cemetery.
   Mrs. Grant died Tuesday, June 22, at University of Alabama Birmingham
Hospital.
   Survivors include one daughter, Kelly Grant of Wedowee; two sons, Danny
Bailey and Cody Grant of Wedowee; her parents, Ray and Blanch Benefield of
Wedowee; one sister, Freda Benefield King of Wedowee; one brother, Randy
Benefield of Carrollton, Ga.; one grandson; two nieces and one nephew.
   Pallbearers were Spencer Railey, Brian Pilgrim, Donnie Grant, Jamie
Benefield, Keith Benefield, John A. King, Randy Benefield and Donnie Benefield.
   Mrs. Grant was born Sept. 22, 1953, daughter of Ray and Blanch Holloway
Benefield.  She was a member of Woodland Church of God and a weaver at BP Amoco
Fabrics and Fibers.  Mrs. Grant was preceded in death by her grandparents,
William and Minnie Wood Holloway and Byron and Betha Baldwin Benefield.

Horace Junior Bowen

   (HEFLIN) Services for Horace Junior Bowen, 64, of Heflin were at 1 p.m.
Friday, June 25, 2004, at Edwardsville Baptist Church with the Revs. Rodney
Hagan, Horace Merrill and Archie Parker officiating. Burial was in Lower Cane
Creek Cemetery with Dryden Funeral Home in charge.
   Mr. Bowen died Tuesday, June 22, at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.
   Survivors include a son, Greg Bowen of Heflin; three sisters, Johnnie Arevalo
and Mary Greene, both of Newell, and Bell Watts of Oxford; a brother, Wayne
Bowen of Newell; and two grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were friends and family.
   Mr. Bowen, a longtime Heflin resident, was a member of Edwardsville Baptist
Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Odessa and Claudis Bowen; and
two brothers, Homer Bowen and Mayo Bowen.

Calvin Teel

   (LAFAYETTE) Calvin Teel, 75, of LaFayette died Monday, June 21, 2004, at UAB
Hospital, Birmingham.
   Services were at Sandy Ridge Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 24,
with burial in LaFayette City Cemetery.  The Rev. Yancey Sanders and the Rev.
Debra Gibson officiated.
   Surviving are his wife, Maxine Teel of LaFayette; two sons, Dennis Teel and
Charles Teel of Opelika; one sister, Billie Bridges of Valley; one brother,
Donald Teel of Newnan, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Jack Bailey, Lee Hayes, Tommy Carson, Owen Waites, Herman
Hand and Danny Shaver.
   Mr. Teel was born in Chambers County Nov. 1, 1928.  He was a Korean War
veteran and was retired from McClendon Motors and Waites Auto Parts after 31
years of service.  He was a lay speaker in the Methodist church and was serving
Forrester's Chapel and Milltown Methodist churches.  He was a member of Sandy
Ridge Methodist Church, LaFayette.

Ronnie Traylor

   (ROANOKE) Ronnie Traylor 45, of Roanoke, died Monday, June 28, 2004, at his
residence.
   Services will be Thursday, July 1, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Riley
Street, Ronaoke [Roanoke], with the Rev. Gilbert E. Staples officiating.  Burial
will be in Skyview Memorial Gardens.
   Survivors include a sister, Barbara Brooks of Roanoke; two brothers, Tracy
Traylor and Anthony Traylor of Roanoke; a great-aunt, Rebecca Gardner of
Pineville; special aunt, Johnnie Ridley of Roanoke and two nephews.  He was
preceded in death by a brother, Randy Traylor.
   Public viewing will be at Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke, from 10
a.m. until 6 p.m., on Wednesday, June 30.  The body will be placed in the church
one hour before services.

Dovie Mitchell Cummings

   (ROANOKE) Services for Dovie "Red" Mitchell Cummings, 76, of Roanoke were
Sunday, June 27, 2004, at 3 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev.
Ricky Cummings and the Rev. Charles Whitson officiating.  Burial was in Midway
United Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Cummings died Friday, June 25, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Survivors include her husband, Wilson Cummings; one daughter, Betty Kelly of
Lanett; two sons, Horace Cummings of Roanoke and Billy Sudduth of Lanett; two
grandchildren; three brothers, Robert and Johnny Mitchell of Roanoke and Wayne
Mitchell of Montgomery; and four great-grandchildren.
   A Randolph County native, Mrs. Cummings was born Dec. 16, 1927, daughter of
Andrew and Fannie Lou Nichols Mitchell.  She was a member of Midway United
Methodist Church and formerly was a waitress at the Tara Restaurant before
retiring.  Mrs. Cummings was preceded in death by her son, Sammie Cummings.
   Pallbearers were Chris Smith, Adam Smith, Sam Harris, Gerald Mitchell, Chad
Mitchell and Timmy Smith.

Shirley D. Hall

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Shirley D. Hall, 72, of LaGrange died Thursday, June 24,
2004, at Hospice LaGrange.
   Mrs. Hall was born April 5, 1932, in LaGrange, daughter of the late John T.
and Gulema McConnell Bartlett.  She was a lifelong area resident and an active
member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, where she was leader of Shoal Creek's
Golden Joy.  Mrs. Hall  was also an active member of the Troup County Senior
Center and a member of the Pepperettes.  Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by her
husband, Fred E. Hall.
   Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Wade of LaGrange; a son, Eddie Hall of
Brunswick, Ga.; two granddaughters; a grandson; and four great-grandchildren.
   Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at Shoal Creek Baptist Church,
with the Rev. Anthony Hovey and the Rev. O. Max McCord officiating.  Burial was
in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Joyce Bradley Bryant

   (JACKSONVILLE) Graveside services for Joyce Bradley Bryant, 67, of
Jacksonville were at 2 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2004, at White's Gap Baptist Church
Cemetery.
   Mrs. Bryant died Thursday, June 24, at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation
Center.
   Survivors include four sons, Victor Bryant of Wellington, Joey Bryant, and
Paul Bryant, all of Jacksonville, and Jonathon Bryant of Piedmont; a daughter,
Angie Bryant of Jacksonville; two sisters, Janie Ogle of Oxford and Bobbie Nell
Hampton of Wedowee; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
   Pallbearers were Victor Bryant, Joey Bryant, Jonathan Bryant, Paul Bryant and
David Hill.
   Mrs. Bryant, a Calhoun County native, was Baptist.  She was preceded in death
by her husband, Morgan Bryant; a son, Billy Bryant; a daughter, Brenda Sue
Bryant; and her parents, Frank and Elizabeth Bailey.
