Mayme Heflin Wilkerson, 90, of Atlanta died Wednesday, June 16, 2004.    Ms. Wilkerson was born Feb. 18, 1914, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Hillard Heflin (Queenie Tolbert).  She united first with Rocky Mount Methodist Church and later Bethel United Methodist Church, where she served faithfully as a member of the Women's Communion Stewardess and treasurer of the Special Projects Memorial Fund.  She was a member of the Alabama Association of Educators.  A graduate of Alabama State University, Montgomery, she was employed as a "drum major" of education by the Randolph County School System, where she taught for 45 years, always believing "No child should be left behind."    Ms. Wilkerson was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Fred Wilkerson. She is survived by four sisters-in-law, Mollie Mae Heflin of Wadley, Judelia Heflin of Roanoke, Minnie Brewer of Atlanta and Mamie Hines of Roanoke; a special cousin, Lula Mae Washington of Lanett; and a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins and dear friends.    Funeral arrangements were by Gus Thornhill's Funeral Home, East Point, Ga. __________ Catharin Imogene Yates    (VALLEY) Catharin Imogene Yates, 82, of Valley died Tuesday evening, June 29, 2004, at Lanier Memorial Hospital, Valley.    Funeral services were Friday, July 2, at 4 p.m. at Plant City Baptist Church in Lanett with the Revs. Jim Abbott and Ben Hewitt officiating.    Mrs. Yates is survived by two daughters, Vicki Y. Cooper of Valley and Annette Meadows of Virginia Beach, Va.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Verne Troutman of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Judy Franzone of Powder Springs, Ga.; one sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.    Born Aug. 9, 1921, in Wadley, Mrs. Yates was the daughter of the late Geneva Ann Brockton McGill and Henry Frank Blankenship.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hamilton Yates of Valley, and her siblings, Eugene Blankenship of Glendale, Milford Blankenship and Virginia McVay of Lanett, Deward Blankenship of Valley, Eston Wise of Kinston and Marlin Blankenship of Orlando, Fla.    Mrs. Yates retired from West Point Pepperell, where she was employed for 36 years as a receptionist/PBX operator, payroll clerk, accounts receivable clerk and lab clerk.  She was a member of Plant City Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for more than 60 years, a teacher for Training Union and leader for the Young Women's Auxiliary.  She helped establish the Women's Missionary Union at Plant City and at Shawmut First Baptist Church.  Mrs. Yates served as president of the WMU at Plant City for 18 years.  In 1992, she compiled and wrote the book, "Fifty Years at Plant City Baptist Church."  Mrs. Yates taught many study courses at most of the Baptist churches in the Valley area. After retirement from West Point Pepperell, she became a substitute teacher for the Chambers County School System, where she taught almost daily for more than 10 years.  Mrs. Yates was affectionately known as "Honey Mama" and was loved by many students.    Flowers or memorials to Plant City Baptist Church will be accepted.    Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Inc., Valley. __________ Marilyn Williams    (FIVE POINTS) Marilyn Williams, 74, of Five Points died Sunday, July 4, 2004 at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.    Services were at Jeff Jones Funeral Home, LaFayette, at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 5, with burial in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.  The Rev. Norred of Roanoke.    Mrs. Jimmerson was born May 5, 1937, daughter of E. J. Velma Ward Akins, 91, of LaGrange, Ga., died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at the Brian Center.    Mrs. Akins, born March 28, 1913, in Randolph County, Ala., was the daughter of the late James B. and Myrtie Cosper Ward.  She had lived in LaGrange most of her life and retired from the Elm City Plant of Milliken & Company.  She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.    Survivors include several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Vince A. Akins.    Graveside services were Thursday, July 1, at 11 a.m. in Hillview East Cemetery with the Rev. William Crawford, officiated.    Mrs. Prothro died Sunday, June 27, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Ga.    She is survived by a daughter, Mary Alice Houston of Graham; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.    Arrangements were by Roanoke Funeral Home. __________ Martha Sue Redmond Brickell    (ATLANTA) Martha Sue Redmond Brickell, 79, died May 3, 2004, after a severe stroke.  She had been living in Atlanta with her youngest son and his family.    Mrs. Brickell grew up in Roanoke, daughter of Walter Redmond and Annie Mae Muldrew.  She began traveling the world after her marriage to Lt. Col. Grant Brickell as his Army career took them on various assignments.  She settled in Jacksonville, Fla., when she retired and became a real estate salesperson, enjoying many years of success.    Mrs. Brickell is survived by four children, Susan Galbreath, Timothy Brickell, Thomas Brickell and Jeffrey Brickell; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. __________ Walter Jefferson 'Dub' Mayfield    (ROANOKE) Services for Walter Jefferson "Dub" Mayfield, 75, of Roanoke were Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Beach, Fla.; two sons, Mike Heard and Tommy Mayfield of Roanoke; three brothers, Charlie Mayfield of South Carolina and Tim Mayfield and Donnie Mayfield of Roanoke; two sisters, Mary Sue Lewis of Niangua, Mo., and Lila Jean Womble of Florence; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.    Mr. Mayfield was born Feb. 28, 1929, son of T. Tinney    (MONTGOMERY) Graveside services for Orville A. Tinney, 91, of Montgomery, formerly of Talladega, Orange Beach and Anniston, were Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Randolph Memory Gardens in Roanoke, with the Rev. Billy Williams officiating.    Mr. Tinney died Friday, June 25, in Montgomery.  He owned and operated Tinney Automotive Service in Talladega for over 50 years prior to his retirement.  Mr. Tinney was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and an active member of the Exchange Club, the Civitan Club and Elks Lodge and a member of Golden Springs Baptist Church, Anniston.  For 25 years he coached Little League baseball in Talladega.  He was also an avid gardener and fisherman.  His wife, Mary Elizabeth Hogan Tinney; a daughter, Virginia Celeste Tinney; and a granddaughter, Morgan Elizabeth Tinney, preceded him in death.    Survivors include two sons, Jim Tinney of Montgomery and John Tinney of Roanoke; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Pat Tinney of Sylacauga; and a sister, Gladys Watts of Birmingham.    Pallbearers were Matt Tinney, Clay Tinney, Darrell Jones, Chris Albright, Donnell Embrey and Alan Jones.    Arrangements were by Frederick's Funeral Home, Opelika, and Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke. He retired from the U.S. Army in September 1960 after 20 years of service. T. Brown and Verles R. Brown of Ranburne; two daughters, Elizabeth McManus of Graham and Willie Sue Johnson of Bowdon; 10 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.    Mrs. Brown was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.  She retired from R.S. Brown's Store in the Union Hill community as a storekeeper.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben S. Brown; a brother, George Wiggins; two sisters, Marchie Nolen and Epsie Williams; a son-in-law, Troy Johnson; and a grandchild. __________ Dorothy Traylor Rice Parker    (WEDOWEE) Services for Dorothy Traylor Rice Parker, 77, of Wedowee were Saturday, July 24, 2004, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Wedowee, with the Rev. Don Paris officiating.  Burial was in Wedowee City Cemetery.    Mrs. Parker died Thursday, July 22, at University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital.    Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Butler of Florence, Barbara R. Green of Umatilla and Annette R. Waters of Wedowee; two sons, Herbert E. Rice Jr. and Matthew C. Rice of Wedowee; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.    Pallbearers were deacons of First Baptist Church of Wedowee.    Mrs. Parker was born May 31, 1927, daughter of Charles Hayes Traylor and Dora Amos.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Wedowee, a science teacher for 35 years in the county school system, a member of the Wedowee Study Club and Music Club of Wedowee, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and teacher of the Karcher Sunday School Class.  Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Gordon Parker.    Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee. __________ Phyllis J. Wheeles    (TALLADEGA) Services for Phyllis J. Wheeles, 53, of Talladega were at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2004, at Talladega Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Pettus officiating.  Burial was in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.    Mrs. Wheeler died Tuesday, July 20, at her home.    Survivors include her husband, Randall Wheeles; two daughters, Michelle Kirk of Talladega and Rena Gallaher of Millerville; a son, Steve Kirk of Munford; her mother, Sara Edmondson of Talladega; a sister, Sherry Tillery of Talladega; two brothers, Calvin Edmondson of Munford and Jimmy "Bubba" Edmondson of Talladega; and seven grandchildren.    Pallbearers were Jimmy Lynn Gable, Jay Kirk Stephens, Ricky Frieze, Wayne Hann, Dale Blankenship and Jeffery Hann.    Mrs. Wheeles, a Randolph County native, had lived most of her life in Talladega County.  She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  She was employed by the SHACK Restaurant and had worked at Granny's House Day Care Center and the Palm Beach Company for 17 years. __________ Mattie Sue Cole Busbee    (ROANOKE) Mattie Sue Cole Busbee, 72, of Roanoke died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at her residence.    Services were Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, Roanoke, with the Revs. Tommie Finley and Calvin Trammell officiating.  Interment was in the church cemetery.    Surviving are a special aunt, Estella Trammell of Roanoke, and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.    Mattie Sue Cole Busbee was born in Roanoke, the only child of the late Margaret Cole and Jimmie Lindsey.  She united with Mount Bethel United Methodist Church at an early age.  She grew up in the New Town community and later moved to Detroit, Mich.  She returned to Roanoke due to the illness of her mother. She was a dedicated employee of Traylor Nursing Home until her retirement.    Arrangements were by Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke. __________ James 'Jimmy' Caldwell    (AUBURN) Services for James "Jimmy" Caldwell, 49, of Auburn were at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2004, at Victory World Prayer Center, Auburn, with the Revs. Mark Hunt and Jim Martin officiating.  Burial was in Loachapoka City Cemetery.    Mr. Caldwell, who died at home Tuesday, July 20, was born in Randolph County Feb. 8, 1955, to the late Woody and Olivia Hill Caldwell.  He was employed in sales at Rex TV and Appliance and was a member of Community Fellowship Church in Auburn.  Mr. Caldwell enjoyed working with his family in their ministry called Puppet Trails.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking in his spare time.    Survivors include his wife, Nina Caldwell; three daughters, Jerrie, Jessie and Whitney; one son, Chris; five sisters, Betty Johnston, Judy Honiker, Ruth Darden, Kay Prince and Nancy Giddens; four brothers, Charles Caldwell, Paul Caldwell, Jesse Caldwell and Billy Caldwell; and a host of nieces and nephews.    Arrangements were by Fredericks Funeral Home, Opelika. __________ Mary Nell Shiflett    (OPELIKA) Services for Mary Nell Shiflett, 71, of Opelika, formerly of Roanoke, will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Fredericks Funeral Home, Opelika, with the Rev. Gary Nix officiating.  Burial will follow at 2 p.m. CDT in Stripling Chapel Cemetery, Carrollton, Ga.    Mrs. Shiflett was born the daughter of Earl and Ora Lee Bradley on Sept. 18, 1932, in Carrollton.  She died Sunday, July 25, at East Alabama Medical Center. She was a member of Opelika Church of God.    Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Charles "C.J." Shiflett; a son, Charles Glenn Shiflett of Roanoke; three daughters, Brenda Pope of Hogansville, Ga., Joanne Huggins of Newnan, Ga., and Donna Johnson of Opelika; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. __________ Myrtle W. Stephenson    (SCOTTSBORO) Myrtle W. Stephenson, 81, of Scottsboro died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Jackson County Hospital, Scottsboro.    Services were Saturday, July 24, at 2 p.m. at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Roy Hall officiating.    Surviving are two brothers, Tom Wilkinson of Scottsboro and Ernest Wilkinson of Lineville; a sister, Catherine Ozley of Tucson, Az.; and a number of nieces and nephews.    Mrs. Stephenson was a member of First United Methodist Church of Roanoke.
