'Tom' Burnside (WEDOWEE) Services for T.F. "Tom" Burnside Jr., 72, of Wedowee were Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Wedowee, with the Rev. Gary Henderson officiating. Burial followed in Wedowee City Cemetery. Mr. Burnside died Friday, Oct. 28, at Baptist Medical Center, Montclair. Mr. Burnside is survived by his wife, Billie Ruth Sandley Burnside of Wedowee; one daughter, Tammie Gourdouze of Auburn; one son, Jack Burnside of Wedowee; two sisters, Rita Arther of Gadsden and Betty McMakin of Boerne, Texas; a sister-in-law; two brothers-in-law; three nieces and three nephews. Mr. Burnside was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob Burnside. Pallbearers were Tim Coe, Grady Wakefield, Doug Williams, Harold Mullican, Dick Israel, Jim Morris and Steve Bums. Honorary pallbearers were Wedowee Kiwanis Club and the Randolph County Gideon Camp. Mr. Burnside was born Jan. 3, 1933, in Geraldine, the son of Thomas Floyd Burnside Sr. and Opal James Burnside. He retired as county Extension coordinator after 33 years of working with the Extension Office in Randolph County. His civic activities include: Wedowee Kiwanis Club (44 years perfect attendance, officer at local and district levels, horse show manager for 40 years); Randolph County Chamber of Commerce (past president); Randolph County Cattlemen's Association (past president and lifetime director); Alabama Cattlemen's Association (lifetime director of state board, Junior Cattlemen's Outstanding Leadership Award); Alabama Association of County Agricultural Agents (past president, district director, secretary-treasurer, Search for Excellence 4-H and Youth, Award for Excellence 4-H and Youth Development, Distinguished Service Award, National Public Information Award); Alabama Association of Extension 4-H Agents (charter member, Distinguished Service Award, Alabama Wildlife Federation Educator of the Year, Alabama Poultry and Egg Association Leadership Award, Pork Producers Award for Outstanding Service and Contributions, FFA Outstanding Service Award, Alabama's nominee for the National 4-H Hall of Fame); Gideons International and the Randolph County Farmers Federation (board of directors). He was named Randolph County's Man of the Year and the recipient of the Jaycees Outstanding Young Educator Award. He served Randolph County High School as the "Voice of the Tigers" for 10 years and was a volunteer in the press box for more than 40 years in various capacities. Mr. Burnside was a member of Wedowee First United Methodist Church, where he was MYF director, a youth and adult Sunday school teacher, past chairman of the board of trustees and chairman of the administrative board. P.O. English officiating. Burial was in Anniston Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Baker died Thursday, Oct. 20, at the home of Cynthia Williams, her daughter. Mrs. Baker was born Oct. 22, 1919, in Roanoke. She was the first of seven children of the late the Rev. Elcainer and Lucille Dunson, who both preceded her in death. As a young woman, she joined Thankful Baptist Church and was a devoted member until her health began to fail. On June 19, 1941, Imogene married Grover Cleveland Baker, who preceded her in death. They had seven children. Imogene worked for Dr. Tom King for 20 years and The Downtowner Motel as head cook for 15 years. Her hobbies were fishing, baking and bingo. She was also the president of the Best Yet Social and Savings Club for many years. She is survived by three daughters Cynthia Williams, Sandra Edwards of Anniston and Janice Jenkins of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sons, David Baker Sr. and El Grover "E.G." Baker of Anniston; two sisters, Ann Finch and Maggie Dunson of Detroit, Mich.; a brother, Willie Dunson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, long-time neighbors and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Alfred and Terry; brothers, Virgil, Howard and John L.; and one grandson, E.G. She worked at the Playtex facility for many years, raised two beautiful daughters and moved to Florida in 1997 with her beloved husband, Doye. She was a member of the United Congregational Christian Church in Lanett and taught Sunday school for many years. Mrs. House was the daughter of the late Brooksie and Ora Williamson Anglin. Mr. Treadwell is survived by a son, Hunter Treadwell of Atlanta; his mother, Betty Nix Cutting of Hendersonville, N.C.; his maternal grandmother, Clara Nix of Roanoke; and two sisters, Vicki Siedlock of Tampa, Fla., and Felicia Payne of Bryant, Ala. He is also survived by numerous great-aunts, great-uncles, aunts, uncles and cousins in the Roanoke area. After obtaining his MBA at the University of Florida, he was owner and president of Kampe Real Estate Appraisals until his retirement in November 1998. Margie Elliott, 88, of 4081 Knotty Oak Trail, Douglasville, Ga., died peacefully of natural causes at her home on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005. Mrs. Elliott was born July 1, 1917, in Chambers County and was a longtime resident of Wadley before moving to Douglasville. She was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, Marion Elliott of LaFayette; one daughter, Marie Cruz of Douglasville; and one brother, Bill Adams of Penton. Mr. Poor was born March 31, 1926, in Lawley, Ala., to the late Jessee Lee Poor and Fawnya Poor. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and was a retired truck driver, having worked for the Tyson Food Company for many years. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Lillian Poor; two brothers, Truman Poor and Jessee Lee Poor Jr.; and a sister, Martha Ann Burns. Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Millsap of Carrollton, Ga.; a son, Richard "Ricky" Poor of Bowdon, Ga.; a sister, Edie Maddox of Augusta, Ga.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
