Al Perkins III officiating. Mrs. Schuessler will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery. Mrs. Schuessler died Sunday, Dec. 4, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange. Survivors include her husband, John Major Schuessler of Roanoke; one son, Wesley Schuessler II of LaGrange; two daughters, Dr. Suzanne Schuessler Hayes of LaGrange and Lila Murfee Schuessler of Birmingham; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bobby Durham, Roger White, Oliver Kitchens, Spec Bonner, Mark Awbrey, Pat Awbrey, Jim Dunn and Bill Ragle. Mrs. Schuessler was born Jan. 15, 1932, daughter of Dr. Gordon Clopton Ussery and Annie Wright Ussery. She was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, the Dames of Magna Charta, numerous bridge clubs, Roanoke Garden Club, Roanoke Literary Club, Roanoke Silhouette Club, and was a Randolph County Hospital Pink Lady. Mrs. Schuessler graduated from Mercer University with a masters degree. Services were Saturday, Dec. 3, at Frederick's Funeral Home in Opelika, with the Rev. Tim Whaley officiating. Burial followed in the Veteran's Section of Randolph Memory Gardens, Roanoke. He was born Jan. 12, 1933, in Fort Worth, Texas. He served in the National Guard during the Korean War. He was a truck driver and a cattle farmer by trade. Surviving are three daughters, Denise McClendon of Carnesville, Ga., Patrice Melton of Wadley and Jolece McClendon of Gainesville, Ga.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Richard and Velma McClendon, and one brother, Robert McClendon. Ledbetter was born in Shelby County, Sept. 27, 1923, the son of the late A.B. and Georgia Daugherty Ledbetter. He was a retired minister and a Navy veteran of World War II. The Rev. Dr. W. Millard Stevens, pastor emeritus of the First Christian United Church of Christ, died at the age of 94. Dr. Stevens was a native of Randolph County and a graduate of Handley High School. He was the son of the late W.H. Stevens and the late Nora Payne Stevens. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Aida June Jones Stevens; and infant son, Thomas Wyatt Stevens. He was also preceded in death by his three brothers, Kenice Stevens, Curtis Stevens and Joe Tom Stevens; and one sister, Annie Rae Stevens. Dr. Stevens is survived by his wife, Kathleen Miles Stevens; and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Stevens graduated from Elon College and Yale University Divinity School. He was given an honorary doctor of divinity degree by Elon College in 1952. He was ordained as a Christian Minister in the Congregational Christian Church, later the United Church of Christ. He served as a pastor in Alabama, North Carolina, Virginia, Connecticut and Tennessee. Dr. Stevens served two terms as president of the Southern Conference of the United Church of Christ, formerly the Southern Convention of the Congregational Christian Churches, from 1950-1954. He was a member of the board of trustees of Elon College for 41 years. He was also a member of the board of trustees of Bradley Memorial Hospital while a pastor in Southington, Conn. At the time of his death, he was pastor emeritus of the First Christian United Church of Christ and trustee emeritus of Elon College. He enjoyed writing short stories and jokes, many of which were published, and he was an avid "Roll Tide" fan. Mr. Kitchens is survived by two daughters, Vasser Sheppard of Salem and Hazel Piermatteo of Ponta Vedra Beach, Fla.; two sons, Marlys Kitchens of Heflin and Wayne Kitchens of Newell; two sisters, Mordie Landers of Peachtree City, Ga., and Rudy Lipham of Texas; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Randy Sheppard, Jeffery Kitchens, Jason Kitchens, Allen Garrett, Tim Shultz, Stanley Bean, Roy Smith and Tony Piermatteo. Mr. Kitchens was born Nov. 23, 1915, son of William Gilbert and Martha Etta Holloway Kitchens. He was a member of Iduma Congregational Methodist Church and had been a poultry farmer. Mr. Kitchens was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Kitchens; and one grandson, Jonathon Kitchens. Benefield Funeral Service. __________ Rogers Rose (RANDOLPH COUNTY) Rogers Rose Jr., 70, of Randolph County died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at his home. Mr. Rose was born Nov. 25, 1935, in Memphis, Tenn.; son of the late Rogers Sr. and Glenice Bickers Rose. He was a successful entrepreneur in the automotive and motor industries and was the owner and operator of AAA Fire Works in Randolph County. He attended Community Christian Church in Franklin, Ga. Survivors include his wife, Linda F. Rose; daughters Janice Cunningham and Dianne Smith; a son, Heinrich Rose; five stepchildren, Jessica Twilley, Charlotte Twilley, Charleen Twilley, David Price and Robert Price; a sister, Betty Owen; three brothers, Lynn R. Rose, Glenn O. Rose and Robin L. Smith; four grandchildren, three nieces and five great-nieces and great-nephews. Services for Mr. Rose will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel in LaGrange, Ga., with the Rev. Mike Bain officiating. The family will be at the home of his mother-in-law, Barbara Gann, at 22 Chase Road, LaGrange, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 until 11 before the service.
