Sgt. Irvin H. Ayres, who lost his life in France on Sept. 11, 1944, arrived in Heflin Tuesday, Nov. 2. Sgt. Ayres was 27 years of age at the time of his death and was not married. A military funeral, with the Heflin American Legion in charge was held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at Morrisons Chapel, with the Rev. L. P. Bowen and the Rev. Hobart Murphree officiating. Brown Funeral Service directed. Before volunteering for service work in January 1939, Irvin Ayres attended Randolph County High School in Wedowee. His overseas service included assignments in Iceland, Ireland, and France. S. Sgt. Ayres is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Ayres, of Heflin. Rt. 3, five sisters: Mrs. Ora Green, of Abeline, Texas, Mrs. Vera Lee, and Mrs. Era Lee, of Heflin, Rt. 1, Mrs. Eleanor McCord, of Sylacauga, and Mrs. Louise Daniel, of Newell; five brothers: Bryan Ayres, of Columbus, Ga., William, John, and Woodrow Ayres, all of Heflin, Rt. 1, and T. Sgt. Boone Ayres, of Camp Stoneman, Calif. Anniston Star: Funeral Services for Staff Sgt. Irwin H. Ayres, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Ayres of Heflin, Rt 1. Who was killed Sept 10, 1944, in France, will be held at Morrison's Chapel Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. L. P. Bowen and the Rev. Hobert Murphy officiating Military rites will be performed by the American Legion, Heflin Post No. 19. Sergeant Ayres is survived by his parents; five sisters, Mrs. Ora Green of Abeline, Tex., Mrs. Era Lee of Heflin, Rt 1; Mrs. Eleanor McCord of Sylacauga; Mrs. Louise Daniel of Newell; and five brothers, Bryan Ayres of Columbus, Ga., Wilburn, John and Woodrow Ayres, all of Heflin. Rt. 1. and TSgt Boone Ayres, of the U. S. Army, stationed in Camp Stoneman, Calif. Sergeant Ayres attended school at Randolph County High School and volunteered for service in January of 1939. He received his basic training at Fort McClellan. He was stationed In Iceland for approximately 18 months and from there was sent to Ireland. He was a member of the Second Infantry of the Fifth Division. Cleburne News: The body of S-Sgt Irvin H.
