She was the daughter John P. McInzie. She was married to W.L. Ayres March the 4th 1855 and died Oct. 26th, 1908. She was therefore seventy-two years, eleven months and eleven days old at the time of her death. She was the wife of W.L. Ayres for fifty-three years, eight months and twenty-two days. She was the mother of eight children, three sons and five daughters. They are in the order of their ages: Mrs. H.D. Landers, John D. Ayres, Mrs. R.S. Thomas, Mrs. M.J. Tenant, Irvin Ayres who proceeded his mother to the grave. Mrs. J.H. Wright, Mrs. Cory Linville and W.P. Ayres. Mrs. Ayres of Aunt Delia as she was familiarly known among her acquaintances was a devoted wife and mother whose aim in life seemed to be to render comfort to those around her. The writer knew her personally for more than thirty-five years. Aunt Delia was to me the same prosperity or adversity or in joy or sorrow. She was not a member of any church here but believed in the doctrine of the Primitive Baptist church to which it is said that she wished to be united, but for the fact her husband never has seen cause to unite with any church, she failed to do so. It can truthfully be said of her and her husband that no person saint nor sinner, white of black, worthy or unworthy was ever turned from her home without food, shelter or comfort when was in their power to give them. In an acquaintance of nearly forty years, I have never heard her speak ill of anyone. I made this remark to her nearest neighbor a lady who had known her intimately for more than forty years, the reply was "Neither did anyone else". Aunt Delia has gone to meet the reward of a pious and virtuous life, and I doubt not that her home is with the Blessed. G.V. Landers. Additional Comments: Daughter of John Patrick McKenzie and wife of Wilson Lumpkin Ayres.
