HIGGINS DEAD ---------------------------- At twenty minutes past nine o’clock last night [5 Feb 1901] the gentle spirit of Mrs Adaline CLARK HIGGINS took its peaceful flight. The demise occurred -- after an illness of ten days -- at the home of her devoted son, Charles E HIGGINS, in this city [Roanoke]. Asked for a few facts concerning the life of the deceased, Mr HIGGINS wrote down a few historical facts, and concluded, “She was one of the best of mothers.” No higher tribute could have been paid her than this loving compliment from “her boy.” Mrs HIGGINS was born in South Carolina Dec 22, 1815. She has lived in Alabama since 1842. She had been a member of the Baptist church for many years. Her labors well done, she has entered into rest. The funeral will occur at Bethel at one o’clock this afternoon. We sympathize with the bereaved in their greatest loss -- the death of mother. [From The Randolph Leader (Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama), 6 Feb 1901, p.3] ---------- There are no marked HIGGINS graves at either the Bethel East Baptist Church cemetery or the Bethel West Baptist Church cemetery.
