Ala on the 24th day of August 1860 in the 31st year of his age, brother J.P. Barnett. The subject of the notice was born in Union District S. C. In early life he removed with his parents to Georgia, where be embraced region and joined the Baptist Church of Christ at Macedonia, Coweta County, Ga. He subquality came to Randolph Co., Ala., where he married Margaret Riddle, with whom he lived with harmoniously to the time of decease. Immediately after removing to Alabama, he joined the Church or Christ at Hepzibah by letter in this Church he was licensed to preach the everlasting gospel, which he continued to proclaim as long as his health would permit, he was long time under the afflicting disease hand which baffled all medical skill. The angel of death had laid claim to him, and neither the kind attention of skillful physicians, nor the endearing affections of him much beloved wife could avert the fatal blow. his patience under afflictions, and meek resignation to the will of God, are perhaps without a parallel during his affliction. He was called upon to mourn the loss of his two children. This seemed to lesson his desires for earth and increase his longing for celestial enjoyments. A few days before his happy death, he was heard singing "Why should we start and fear to die," After which, he seemed still more resigned his approaching dissolution. Truly we may say he died "the death of the righteous," and in the full enjoyment or a living faith. Although his remains lie beneath the clod of the valley, his spirit is in full enjoyment of blissful lamellately. "When languor and discase invade This trembling house of clay, Tis sweet lo look beyond our cage, and long to fly away." Brother Barnett has left a weeping wife who mourns his loss and no doubt if he could be permitted to speak to her, he would sav "weep not" loved ones, for I am happy and only wait your arrival. Such no doubt would be his address to his aged father, to his brothers, sisters and his numerous friends. J.M.S.
