Roanoke Leader
While returning from a gathering of colored people in beat 11 last Friday night, 
between Rock Mills and Lees Ford, Carl Bell, a well-known Negro, was killed, it 
is said by being stabbed in the heart by a weapon resembling an ice pick. 
Saturday night Herbert Adamson, another Negro, was arrested and charged with the 
killing. It is reported that he stated he had killed Bell in self-defense. He was 
carried to jail in Wedowee. His case will be given attention by the grand jury 
now in session.
