Mrs. Gordon Bennett
(Roanoke, Rt. 5)

   Mrs. Willie Gay Bennett of Roanoke, Rt. 5, age 77, passed away in the 
Earnest Memorial Hospital, Franklin, at 10 o'clock Saturday night, May 2.
   Mrs. Bennett is survived by her husband, Gordon Bennett; 4 sons, Lunie Gay 
of LaGrange, Luther Gay and Austin Gay of Eustis, Fla., and Jesse T. Gay of 
LaFayette; 3 daughters, Mrs. Burtis Brown of LaGrange, Mrs. Bertha Jeffers of 
Roanoke, Rt. 5, and Mrs. Annnie Cunningham of Roanoke, Rt. 3; 16 grandchildren 
and 13 great grandchildren; 4 brothers, T.W. Veal of Florida, O.T. Veal of 
Lanett, Jesse Veal of LaGrange, and Bob Veal of Roanoke and 3 sisters, Mrs. 
Carrie Burks, and Mrs. Mittie Manley of Roanoke and Mrs. Zera Shelnutt of 
Langdale.
   Funeral services for Mrs. Bennett were conducted Monday afternoon at 3 
o'clock from the Beulah Baptist Church by Rev. J.T. Rollins and Rev. Chester 
Freeman. Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Quattlebaum's Brown Service Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Additional Comments:

Willie Dee Veal was born on 3 February 1887 in Randolph county, Alabama and 
died 2 May 1964 in Heard county, Georgia. Willie Dee Veal’s first marriage was 
to Thomas ‘Tom’ Jefferson Gay on 18 August 1907. Willie Dee Veal Gay’s second 
marriage after Tom Gay died was to Thomas Gordon Bennett on 10 April 1961 in 
Randolph county, Alabama. Willie Dee Veal is buried alongside Thomas Jefferson 
Gay at Beulah Baptist Church, Hillabehatchee, Randolph county, Alabama.


Children of Willie Dee Veal Gay:

Nannie B. Gay b. 25 July 1908 and d. 7 December 1909. Buried in Misc. 
Cemeteries Townships 21 & 22(High Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery, Randolph 
County, Alabama).

Birtice Maybell Gay b. 5 April 1910 and d. 3 May 1973 in LaGrange, Troup 
County, Georgia. Birtice married John Henry Brown on 7 December 1929 (marriage 
record recorded at Franklin Courthouse, Franklin, Heard County, Georgia). 
Birtice and John Henry Brown are buried in Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 
LaGrange, Troup County, Georgia.

Bertha Lee Gay b. 10 May 1912 and d. 8 October 1994 in Randolph County, 
Alabama. Bertha married Durard V. Jeffers August 1959. Bertha and Durard 
Jeffers are buried in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery, Hillabehatchee, 
Randolphh County, Alabama.

Fanny Mae Gay b. 10 November 1913 and d. 28 December 1929 in Randolph County, 
Alabama. Fannie Mae Gay never married. She is believed to be buried close to 
Thomas "Tom" Jefferson and Willie Dee Veal Gay in Beulah Baptist Church 
Cemetery, Hillabehatchee, Randolph County, Alabama in an unmarked grave.

William Lunnie Gay b. 10 May 1915 and d. 31 October 1982 in LaGrange, Troup 
County, Georgia. William L. Gay married Carrie Causey on 6 November 1933 
(marriage record recorded in Wedowee Courthouse, Wedowee, Randolph County, 
Alabama). William Lunnie and Carrie Causey Gay are buried in the LaGrange City 
(Shadowlawn) Cemetery, LaGrange, Troup County, Georgia.

Infant Gay b. 19 June 1917 and d. 28 June 1917 in Randolph County, Alabama. 
Infant Gay buried in Misc. Cemeteries Township 21 & 22 (High Shoals Baptist 
Church Cemetery, Randolph County, Alabama). 

Luther B. "Gout" Gay b. 3 February 1919 and d. 11 February 2002 in Florida.

Annie Catherine Gay b. 5 March 1923 and d. 13 December 2007 in Randolph 
County, Alabama. Annie C. Gay married James "Buster" W. Cunningham on 19 July 
1941. Annie Catherine Gay and James "Buster" W. Cunningham are buried in the 
Springfield Methodist Church Cemetery (Pittman Cemetery), Springfield, 
Randolph County, Alabama.

Jessie "Jack" Thomas Gay b. 12 September 1925 and d. 20 March 1970 in Randolph 
County, Alabama. Believe Jessie T. Gay married a Minnie Carson. Jessie Thomas 
Gay is buried in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery, Hillabehatchee, Randolph 
County, Alabama.

Austin Gay b. 24 December 1930.
