T.J. Beverly departed this life at Asylum Hospital, Jackson Miss., on the 21st 
of February 1863, after an illness of near two months. He was taken sick at 
Meridian with fever, on his way to Vicksburg convalesced and was sent to Jackson 
about the 12th of January when he was attacked by Erysipelas from which be soon 
died. He was born in Merriwether County, Ga. the lOth of August 1837, professed 
religion in his 14th year, was baptized by Rev. J. C, Beverly into the 
fellowship New Hope Baptist Church Randolph County, Ala. November 1851. His 
piety was well known to all who knew him. He was married 25th June 1861 to Miss. 
F. M. Long. He joined Capt. Wood's Company 30th Alabama Regt. Vols. He was in 
the battle at Tazewell, Tenn., and went through the Kentucky Campaign under Gen. 
Bragg. His affliction was very severe, but he bore it with Christian fortitude 
He has gone from earth to that land of bliss where the "wicked cease from 
troubling and the weary are at rest". He leaves a father, mother, wife, 
brothers, sisters. relatives and many warm friends to mourn their irreparable 
lost but weep not your lost is only temporary, and his gain his eternal joy, put 
your house in order, that when your course is run in this affiliative world you 
my live with him in Jesus where parting is no more.

Thomas J. Beverly was the son of Joseph C. Beverly and Eleanor Bangham/Bingham.
He and his brother Champion G. Beverly both enlisted on Mar 19, 1862, at Camp
Curry in Company G, 30th Alabama Infantry from Randolph County.
