Dr. Max Brannan, 75, a former resident of Roanoke, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 1983, in Merced, Calif. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 10, from the funeral chapel. Interment was in the Merced District Cemetery. Dr. Brannan was born April 22, 1908, in Roanoke, son of Bunyan Burton Brannan and Eula Awbrey Brannan. He was a graduate of Handley High School, the University of Alabama, and Tulane University. He established his medical practice in Merced in 1935. During World War II he served with the Army Air Force and was discharged with the rank of colonel. His medical specialty was preventive medicine. He was certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in 1956. He had been a member of the California Medical Association since 1934, and had served as president of the Merced-Maripos Medical Society.
