N. Browning. He was born Aug. 12, 1840, thus making him 92 years, three months and 29 days old. He served all through the War Between the States, and he has insisted that the present depression is nothing compared to the hard times during that war and the dark days of reconstruction that followed it. In his younger days, Uncle Newt was considered one of the hardest workers in the county. He established what is known as Browning's ferry and operated it for several years. He once owned nearly all the land from this ferry to New Hope, West. Mr. Browning was twice married, his first wife dying about 20 years ago, and he married again about two years later. Three children were born to the latter marriage, two of whom are still living. He joined the Baptist church in early childhood and was always a faithful and active member. He was also a member of the Masonic order. He had moved to Cragford Wednesday before his death. The funeral service was conducted Sunday afternoon at New Hope West, by Rev. Warner Wilborn, with Masonic ceremonies. Lineville Headlight: On Saturday night, Dec. 10, 1932, the death Angel came to relieve Mr. Newt Browning of his suffering. He was 92 years of age. He lived a consecrated, Christian life. He leaves a wife, daughter and son to mourn his loss. Rev. Warner Welborn conducted the funeral services. He was laid to rest in the New Hope cemetery.
