The reported cause of Mr. Burkes death was electric shock while he was at work at the Handley Manufacturing Company mill in Roanoke. He was a veteran of World War II and spent about three years of the time he was in the army in overseas service. Funeral services were held from the Mt. Zion Church at 3:00 p. m. Saturday, July 15, with the Rev W. L. Woodlee and the Rev. Guy Bassett officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Zion cemetery, with full military honors rendered by members of V. F. W. Post No 6571 of Wedowee. Roanoke Funeral Home directed. Mr. Burke is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pauline Burke; three sons: Hugh, Johnnie, and Benson his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Hue Burke of Wehadkee; three brothers: George of Roanoke, Wallace of Wehadkee, and Wayne of Wehadkee; five sisters: Mrs. Thelma Sims of Rock Mills and Misses Margaret, Thelma, Ruth, and Lois Burke of Wehadkee.
