OBITUARIES:

JESSE 'WOODY' CALDWELL, SR.

   (Roanoke) Funeral services for Jesse 'Woody' Caldwell, Sr., age 75, of 
Roanoke, were held Sunday, Oct. 9, 1988, at 4:00 p.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral 
Chapel with the Rev. Ken May officiating.  Interment was in Randolph Memory 
Gardens.
   Mr. Caldwell died Thursday, Oct. 6, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
   He was a lifelong resident of Randolph County, a brick mason by profession 
and a member of Roanoke Christian Church on West Point Street.
   Survivors include five daughters; Mrs. Betty Johnson of Colts Neck, N.J., 
Mrs. Judy Honiker of St. Augustine, Fla., Mrs. Ruth Darden of LaGrange, Mrs Kay 
Prince of Woodland and Mrs. Nancy Cotney of Wedowee; five sons, Charles 
Caldwell of LaFayette, Ga., Paul Caldwell of Roanoke, Jesse W. Caldwell, Jr. of 
Rock Mills, James Caldwell of Auburn and Billy Caldwell of Wedowee; 21 
grandchildren; and one sister Mrs. Eva Padgett of Atlanta.
   Pallbearers were Chris Mitchum, Tom Mayfield, Jimmy Young, Howard Bailey, 
Eddie B. Swann and Gilbert Marshall.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Brown-Service Funeral Home, Roanoke.
   The family requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the 
Robert A. Brown Cancer Fund, c/o South Trust Bank, Roanoke.

[Jesse Woodrow, born Mar 8, 1913, is the son of Charles Hopson Caldwell and 
Carrie Bell Mitchum.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Linnie Olivia Hill 
Caldwell in July 1988]
