W.H. Caldwell (RT. 3 BOWDON, GA.) The Rev. W. Herman Caldwell, age 89, of Rt. 3, Bowdon, Ga., died early Monday, April 2, 1979, at his residence. He was born In Randolph County, Ala., son of the late Joseph Caldwell and Maude Coleman Caldwell. He had lived in Heard County most of his life. He was licensed to preach in 1925 and was ordained to the gospel ministry in October of the same year. He had pastored 13 churches in Georgia and the same number in Alabama. During his ministry he is believed to have conducted over 1700 funerals. The Rev. Mr. Caldwell was a member of Ephesus Lodge No. 688 F&AM and the Macedonia Baptist Church in Heard County. In 1910 he was married to Miss Joycie Bledsoe, who died in 1937. In 1939 he was married to Mrs. Beulah Denney Hightower, who died in 1967. Four children preceded him in death: an unnamed infant daughter; Sybil, who died in infancy; Cline, who died at "seven years of age; and Paul, who died in 1965. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Sadie Rogers of Bowdon Rt. 3 and Mrs. Inez Loftin of Newnan, Rt 5; two sons, Jim Caldwell of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Bob Caldwell of Newnan Rt. 5; 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Verdie Parker of Jacksonville; Fla., and Mrs. Evelyn Cochran of Macon, Ga.; and three brothers, Doc Caldwell and the Rev. Ben Caldwell of Macon and Grady Caldwell of LaGrange. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 4, at 2 p.m. from the Macedonia Baptist Church in Heard County by the Rev. Monroe Wiggins, Dr. Doyle Bledsoe, the Rev. Irvine Phillips, and the Rev. Willie Joe Loftin. Interment was in the church cemetery, with Ephesus Lodge No. 688 in charge of graveside rites. Pallbearers were the Revs. Richard Miles, Elmer Cason, Andrew Buchanan, Bobby Caldwell, Jimmy Palmer, and R. L. Brazil. Other area ministers were honorary pallbearers.
