McClellan chapter 2447 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, held at the Anniston-Calhoun County Public Library.) MANDA ELLEN BALL VICKERS CARTER 1885-1982 Our hearts are saddened by the loss of Manda Ellen Ball Carter, the only Real Daughter member of the Bailey G. McClellan Chapter 2447 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Anniston, Alabama. Mrs. Carter passed away, at age 97, on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1982, at the the Lineville Geriatrics Center, where she was confined for some time. Grave side services were held Thursday, Oct. 28, at Sellers Family Cemetery in the New Home Community in Randolph County, Alabama. Our Real Daughter was laid to rest beside her first husband, Marion Morrison Vickers, in the secluded and peaceful surroundings of the family's private cemetery. Services were conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Yarbrough, with Benefield Funeral Home of Lineville in charge. A large group of friends and relatives gathered to pay their respects. Mrs. Carter had been the only surviving child of the eight children of her Confederate soldier father, Moses Jasper Ball. Her father, born Aug. 3, 1842, served in Co. G, 22nd Regt. Alabama Infantry, CSA, during the War Between the States, finally being discharged after being wounded in the left arm. He married Harriet Sellers in 1865 in Randolph County, and after the war was settled, he moved the family to Lawrence County, Alabama, where he died on Feb. 5, 1896, His wife Harriet then moved back to Randolph County to raise her children. Born on Aug. 26, 1844, she died June 13, 1941, having neared the age of 97 years. Manda Ellen's sisters and brothers were Samuel Andrew, Sara Ann Melvina, Gilly, Luella, Ona Ann, Francis P., and Jasper Moses. Her survivors include six step-granddaughters, Mrs. Audine Brown of Mississippi, Mrs. Julia Finch of Graham, Mrs. Ann Boyd of Lineville, Mrs. Gladys Brooks of Delta, Mrs. Donna Sparks of Opelika, and Mrs. Bonnie Fordham of Heflin; a stepson, Mather Carter of Atlanta; and 18 stepgrandchildren, and 37 step-greatgrandchildren.
