The trouble occurred in Bacon Level beat at an all-day gathering, and it is said that whisky played a part in it. Brooks was carried to jail in Wedowee Sunday night. Three other Negroes said to have been engaged in the row were also brought to the Roanoke jail but were released upon making bond.
