Jimmy Parmer and Jacky Simmons officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Parmer died Friday, Nov. 26, at Wedowee Hospital. Mrs. Parmer is survived by three daughters, Losetta Spratlin of Woodland, Margaret Traylor of Graham, and Linda Brown of Woodland; one son, Ridley Parmer of Woodland; one sister, Irene Miller of LaGrange; one brother, Rev. R. C. Prescott of LaGrange; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and four great- great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Larry McManus, Junior Parmer, Steve Spratlin, Brad Vines, Bobby Freeman, Johnathan Daniel, Treston Vines and Drake Vines. Mrs. Parmer was born Aug. 15, 1916, daughter of Charlie Johnson and Josie Maddox Prescott. She was a member of Bethel East Baptist Church and a dietician at Bethel East School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt Wheeler Parmer; one daughter, Sara McManus; two brothers, Donald Prescott and Crawford Prescott; and one sister, Willie Bell Laney. Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Warren H. Williams of Newell; one sister, Eulette Seegar of Wedowee; and one brother, Bill (R.T.) Shaw of Stedmon, N.C. Pallbearers were Ken Wiggins, James Ray Kirby, Barry Nelson, Barry Daniel, Jack Shelton and Ronnie Prince. Mrs. Williams was born Sept. 26, 1920, daughter of Steven Angus and Mattie Wilson Shaw. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was probate clerk for the Calhoun County Commission. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Mabel Whitley McClellan, 93, of LaGrange, Ga., died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Hospice LaGrange. Mrs. McClellan, born Oct. 29, 1911, in Randolph County, Ala., was the daughter of the late John Robert and Clemie Hall Whitley. She had lived in LaGrange most of her life and was a member of Southwest LaGrange Baptist Church, Georgia Mission Leader, Ladies Mission Group and the CEA Ceramic Club. Survivors include a son, Norman McClellan of Cedar Bluff, Ala.; two daughters, Gloria Faye Buck of Stockbridge, Ga., and Sandra Carter of Newnan, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, in the Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel with the Rev. Fred Buchanan officiating. Burial was in Hillview East Cemetery. Mrs. Moore is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Price Daniel of West Point, Ga., and Caren Moore Wiggins of Nashville, Tenn; one stepdaughter, Sandra Moore Opdyke of Indianapolis, Ind.; one brother, Eugene Duke of Newnan, Ga.; four sisters, Hazel Reed of Orlando, Fla., Mary Cardwell of Valley, Pauline Davis of Atlanta and Nell Childers of Newnan, Ga.; six grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. Mrs. Whitmore is survived by her husband of 54 years, Sherman Whitmore; two sons, Jr. Whitmore and Chad Whitmore of Woodland; two sisters, Elma Green of Wedowee and Gleamer Yates of Woodland; and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were Pete Green, Rusty Arrington, Ray Moody, Stephen Hayes, Barry Cofield, Dale Dye, Steve Cantrell and Tony Heard. Mrs. Whitmore was a native of Randolph County, born Oct. 11, 1926, the daughter of Benny and Amanda Eliza Vowell Douglas. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church for 65 years, where she was a choir member and served in various positions over the years. Mrs. Whitmore had been employed by Lamar Manufacturing of Bowdon, Ga., until 1966, when she and her husband started Whitmore Electric and Plumbing Co. of Woodland. She formally retired in 1989, but continued to work in the family business until shortly before her death. She had been involved in various civic groups, but was especially fond of the Woodland Merchants ASC and their annual Christmas parade, of which she was one of the founders. Mrs. Whitmore had many other interests and hobbies, but her favorite hobby was playing with her grandchildren. Mrs. Whitmore was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lydia Burgess, Liler Tucker and Velma Gosdin; and two brothers, Brewer Douglas and Emmitt Douglas. __________ Milton Swain Jr. (BUFFALO, N.Y.) Mrs. Willie Mae Baker, 95, of LaGrange, Ga., died Sunday, Dec. 5, at Twin Fountains Home. Mrs. Baker, born Aug. 30, 1909, in Roanoke, was the daugh­ter of the late James Harvey and Dillie Duffie Brannon. She lived in LaGrange most of her life and retired from Dixie Division of West Point Pepperell. She was an active member of LaGrange Penecostal Holiness Church and was a former active member of the First Assembly of God. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Lila Baker Thornton of Columbus, Ga.; one granddaugter [sic]; one grandson; five great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Will Baker, and a son, Irvin Douglas Baker. Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at LaGrange Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Leonard J. Mrs. Arnett is survived by her husband of 57 years, Carl Arnett of Southern Pines; one daughter, Susan L. Arnett of Raleigh, N.C.; one son, Phillip C. Arnett of Raleigh; one grandson; one sister, Elizabeth Lee of Roanoke; and one brother, Pete Phillips of Rockford. Born in Chambers County on Oct. 4, 1920, Mrs. Arnett was the daughter of the late Ada Sims Phillips and Hiram S. Phillips. She was an elementary school teacher in the Atlanta school system for many years. Joe Frank Clifton officiated. Mrs. Brooks was born April 30, 1922, in Chambers County, Ala., daughter of the late Sam and Emma Clifton. She joined Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and later united with Shiloh Baptist, now known as First Missionary Baptist. Her husband, Willie Rufus Brooks Sr., and two children, Lorenzo Brooks and Mollie Watkins, preceded her in death. He was born in Carroll County, Ga., on July 10, 1956, the son of Charles Emery and Dorothy Jean Otwell Wiggins. He was a mem­ber of Bethlehem Campground Methodist Church and was a truck driver for Jerry Noles Logging Company for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lillie and Ame Wiggins, Silas and Emma Pollard Otwell, his step-grandmother Freddie Truett Gibbs and an infant sister. In addition to his parents, survivors include two brothers, Kenneth Wiggins and Dennis Wiggins; a sister, Sue Lovvorn; a brother-in-law, nieces and nephews. Ruth Langley Meacham, 84, of the Waresville community in Heard County, Ga., died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange, following a stroke. The funeral was at 2 p.m. EST, Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Randolph County (where she was baptized some 70 years ago), with the Rev. Gordon Taylor officiating. Burial was in the Meacham family plot at Bethel Christian Church in Heard County. A native of Randolph County, Ala., Mrs. Meacham was born Oct. 11, 1920, to the late Thomas Jefferson "Jett" Langley and Nan Watson Langley in the Level Roads com­munity. She was a 1938 graduate of Wadley High School. During World War II, Mrs. Meacham was employed as a defense worker at the Anniston Ordnance in Bynum, Ala. In the years following the war, she worked at several major LaGrange employers, including Callaway Mills. For the past 47 years, she had been a beloved resident of Waresville. Mrs. Meacham is survived by her daughter, Marie Meacham, who resides at both the family homeplace in Heard County and in Los Angeles, Calif., where her career is based; one sister, Opal Perry of Wadley; and one brother, Gay Langley of Roanoke. He was a member of Lanett First United Methodist Church, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Opelika. He was a past district commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars, California.
