BURDEN September 8th, 1842. She joined the Baptist church at Bethel, in Chambers county, Alabama, when young and remained a member of that church until her death. Her son, Rev. C. J. BURDEN, is now pastor of Bethel church, where his mother and father were members for many years and where they were buried. Sister BURDEN was the mother of eight children, four boys and four girls: C. J., Isaac, Wm. and J. E. BURDEN; Mesdames ELLINGTON, of Goldridge, Ala., BISHOP, DUNKIN and VINSON, who reside near Roanoke, Ala. She spent her last days at her old home with her daughter, Mrs. BISHOP, and family, who nursed her faithfully and tenderly to the last hour of her life. She loved her children and was loved by all of them, who were kind and good to her and in whose home she was always welcomed. She died Dec. 12, 1910. Her funeral was conducted by her former pastor, Rev. A. S. BRANNAN, assisted by Dr. W. C. BLEDSOE and Rev. W. T. HOLLINGSWORTH, a Presbyterian minister, who was a friend of the family. Sister BURDEN lived a long and useful life, was a good wife and mother, always loyal to her Savior and her church. Her husband and some of her children preceded her to the Better Land. It can be truthfully said of her, “She fought a good fight, kept the faith, finished her work on earth and will wear a crown of righteousness forever more.” A. S. BRANNAN [From The Roanoke Leader (Randolph County, Alabama), 12 Apr 1911, p.7]
