ALGenWeb File Manager - Carolyn Golowka -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by William Fischer, Jr. March 2001 IN MEMORY OF ELIAS BREED -------------------------- Brother Elias [G.] BREED [b. 9 Apr 1847], a well known citizen of the Southern part of Randolph county, departed this life March 21st, 1919, after only a few days' illness. He was born near Lamar, Randolph county, and had lived at Rock Mills and in adjoining communities most of his life. He was married to Miss Bettie GROSS at Rock Mills on Feb. 17th, 1870, by Elder C. B. TAYLOR. Brother BREED was a worthy citizen and a good man, was even and smooth in his ways, and made friends of all who knew him best. He was a devoted member of the Missionary Baptist church and also a devout Mason. He became a member of Rock Mills Lodge, No. 353, A.F.&A.M., Feb. 10th, 1872; raised to the sublime degree of M.M. [Master Mason] March 9th, 1872. He had been Tyler of his lodge for the past ten years. He faithfully performed his duty. Brother BREED was a good neighbor, a loving and affectionate husband and father. His presence in his home will be missed, and in the community, the church and the lodge. Deceased was 72 years old. He leaves a wife, a son and daughters to mourn his death. May the Holy Spirit enable his family to realize that their loss is his gain. Resolved, first, that we as Free and Accepted Masons extend our heartfelt sympathy to his bereft companion and family, and to his sorrowing relatives and friends. Let us console ourselves with the precious thought that he now rests safe in the arms of the Supreme Grand Master of the Universe, and that, while he cannot come back to us, we can go to him. Second, that a copy of these resolutions be placed upon the minutes of the lodge, a copy be sent to The Roanoke Leader for publication, and a copy presented the wife of our deceased brother. W. T. MEACHAM W. A. SEEGAR W. A.
