The deceased was about 70 years old and had lived in this community many years. She was a devoted member of the Primitive Baptist church. Her husband preceded her across the river two years. Truly a good woman is gone. Funeral services were conducted by Rev W R AVERY Thursday evening [4 Feb] at Hillabahatchee. We extend our sympathy to all the bereaved ones. S D LEWIS [From The Roanoke Leader (Randolph County, Alabama), 10 Feb 1909, p.2] ------- M. Elizabeth BARNES, 24 Feb 1838--3 Feb 1909, Daniel S. BARNES, 28 Aug 1833--9 Jun 1906, her husband, Almera BARNES ARRINGTON, 10 Apr 1870--10 Jul 1915, is buried next to the above and is presumably their daughter. All are interred in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery (also known as Hillabahatchee), northeast of Wehadkee, very near the border with Heard County, Georgia. Dropsy was the common term for Edema, the excessive interstitial fluid retention (swelling) typically resulting from heart or kidney disease.
