Mrs. Ripley died Sunday, Jan. 23, at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital in Anniston. Survivors include six daughters, Joan Waldron of Central Square, N.Y., Judy Fish of Wedowee, Julie Welch of Germantown, Md., Susan Walker of Winlock, Wash., Jan Ripley of Moravia and Jill Ripley of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sons, Walker Ripley of Cartersville, Ga., and Richard Ripley of Moravia; a sister, Grace Carroll of Frost Proof, Fla.; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Ripley was a native of Courtland, N.Y., born July 5, 1924, daughter of Fred Ackles and Hazel Farham Ackles. She had lived in Wedowee for six years after leaving Georgia. Mrs. Green was born June 1, 1946, in Randolph County, daughter of the late Guy and Lois Yarbrough Gay. She was married Aug. 19, 1967, to James E. Green, who survives. Mrs. Green was a retired service representative with BellSouth Telephone Company, was a member of the BellSouth Pioneers of America and Old Fort Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Julia Ann McCrakcin of Cottageville, S.C.; two sisters, Geraldine Heard of Oxford, Ala., and Kathy King of Dalton, Ga.; and two grandchildren. Mr. Nicholson died Friday, Jan. 28, in Wedowee. Survivors include four daughters, Edna LeCroy of Heflin, Paula Brown and Joyce Morrow of Lineville, and Diane Nicholson of Spokane, Wash.; a son, Larry Wayne Nicholson of Ranburne; a sister, Mary Lee Lester of Alexandria; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Nicholson was a Carrollton, Ga., native and a former Calhoun County resident. He lived in Cleburne County for 50 years and in Wedowee for the past 25 years. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the 383 Bomb Group. He was a member of Bethlehem Campground United Methodist Church and was a retired employee of Southwire Company. Mathews, 91, of Valley died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Lanier Memorial Nursing Home. Mrs. Mathews was born in Chambers County Sept. 15, 1913, daughter of the late Woody Pearl Powers Sims and John Sims. She was a retired employee of Palm Beach Company in Roanoke and had been a very active member of First Baptist Church of Shawmut, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Surviving are a daughter, Virginia Hollis of Valley; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The Revs. Bobby Anderson, Donald Bailey and Don Gentry will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. He will lie instate for one hour at the church prior to the service. Buck was born Feb. 10, 1925, in Clanton to Calvin and Ester Daniel. He served during World War II as a Naval shipman in the Pacific. After the war, he worked various jobs in Clanton as a peach farmer, furniture storeowner and a banker. In 1958 he opened the first Dairy Queen in Alabama in Clanton. In 1960 he moved to Alexander City to establish The Dairy Quick fast food chain. He was a true entrepreneur. He quickly had Dairy Quicks in Alexander City, Sylacauga, Lineville, Roanoke, Dadeville and Wadley. His creation of "The Buck Burger" was his trademark and was enjoyed by millions of people. He loved serving the public, especially young people. His business was his ministry, to spread the love and joy of his Savior Jesus Christ. He is survived by one daughter, Kathy Black of Birmingham; three sons, David Daniel of Centerville, Gary Daniel and Paul Daniel of Alexander City; one brother, Curtis Daniel of Georgia; one sister, Sara Edwards of Clanton; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Norma C. Daniel. Mrs. Lauderdale is survived by one son, Gerald Clark of Valley, one daughter, Karen Sims of Lanett; one sister, Kathleen Cook of Lanett; one brother, Merle Leon Nelson of Lanett; three grandchildren and one great- grandchild. Mrs. Lauderdale was born May 13, 1933, in Wedowee. She was a former employee of Chalkline and WestPoint Pepperell. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Buchanan, Ga., and had worked as a nurse for Carrollton Surgical Group with Dr. T. M. Martin, Dr. Jimmy Pope and Dr. James Ingram for more than 20 years and also worked as an industrial nurse at Gold Kist in Carrollton. Becky enjoyed her grandchildren, reading, trav­eling and, above all, her family. Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ernest Goldin of Draketown and Carl “Bud” Goldin. He had worked as a teacher in Carroll County and Gwinnett County, as gen­eral manager for Printed Fabrics Corporation in Carrollton, Ga., and then began a career as tax appraiser for Carroll County, Ga. Mr. Noles had also served as chief tax appraiser in both Macon and Heard counties. Mr. Noles was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Martha Lumpkin Noles of LaGrange; one daughter, Jennifer McCutchen of Diamond Head, Miss.; two sons, John Noles of Columbus, Ga., and James Noles of LaGrange; two grandchildren; and a brother, Jerry Noles of Sharpsburg, Ga.
