J. W. Florence, 47, of Roanoke, Rt. 3, died Monday at Wedowee Hospital after a 
long illness. Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Highway Congregational 
Methodist Church with the Rev. A. J. Moore, the Rev. Arlin Ashley and the Rev. 
E. G. Clark officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield 
Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie Ruth 
Florence of Roanoke; two sons, Barry Florence and Roger Florence, both of 
Roanoke; a daughter, Mrs. Sundra Boyd of Roanoke; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. 
T. Florence of Roanoke; a brother, Dorsey Florence of Roanoke; a sister, Mrs. 
Lois Santos of La Grange, Ga., and two grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bob 
Jefferson, Allen McDaniel, Gary McDaniel, Lee Clark, Kenneth Johnson and Jimmy, 
Allen. Mr. Florence was a lifelong resident of Randolph County, and a member of 
Highway Congregational Methodist. Church. He was a mechanic.
