Roanoke Leader
Homer Gibson, colored, was shot and killed by his brother-in-law, John Allen 
Riddle, about noon Sunday on the farm of Mr. Sam Cole, two miles southeast of 
Roanoke. The killing is said to have resulted from a quarrel about family 
matters. Gibson was shot through the body and died almost instantly. The slayer 
came to Roanoke and surrendered, claiming self-defense, and was carried to jail 
in Wedowee.
