W. Green, of Woodland, and carried away the spirit of their beloved daughter, Ether. Ether was born April 29, 1921, and lived thirteen years, nine months and one day. She was the second of five children and the first member of the family to be taken from the home by death. Ether was a member of the Junior class of Woodland High school. Her death came as an unusual shock to her teachers and schoolmates when school reopened after the Christmas holidays on December 31, and it was learned that Ether had gone home to the Master Teacher. Only a few of her friends knew of her illness, for she was seemingly well when school closed on December 21. However, she was ill that day and soon became a victim of flu. Within a few days pneumonia developed, from which she never recovered. On Monday morning as the body of Ether lay at her home cold in death, there was a group of friends teachers and school mates whose spirits were crushed because they knew that nevermore would Ether be a part of them on earth. A short memorial service, conducted by Mr. B. F. Simms, was held at the chapel period in the school auditorium. This was the first death which had ever occurred among the student body since the organization of the school. Soon after the service the members of her class and several faculty members sadly made their way to Providence Baptist church to meet the mourning relatives and other sorrowing friends where the interment took place. Ether will be greatly missed in her home, at school and on the playground. Hers was a happy, joyful and lovable disposition. Her spirit was one of helpfulness and cheerfulness in the home, as well as in the school room. Those who loved her know that earths loss is heavens gain. Surely heaven must be more fragrant because of this young life which was just ready to bloom into maidenhood as the first bud of the early spring must become a full-blown rose and pass into nothingness.
