PATE (popularly known as “Uncle Bird” PATE), who lived about two miles north of Roanoke, died on Friday night last, June 25th, after a lingering illness of heart dropsy. He was an elder brother of our esteemed fellow-townsman, Col. R. S. PATE, and would have been 73 years old had he lived till the 20th of July. He came to this county [Randolph] with his father’s family from Fayette county, Ga., when he was only eleven years old, and has lived here ever since. He was well known to all the older citizens of the county, by whom he was held in high esteem, and his death will be universally regretted by them. He was buried on Sunday morning in the City Cemetery at Roanoke.
