Hendon 76; of Wedowee died Saturday at noon in Wedowee Hospital after a long illness Funeral service will be held today at 3 p.m. in Wedowee Baptist Church with the Revs. Howell Jacks, Hillard Vance and Hobart Murphree officiating. Burial will follow in Wedowee Masonic Cemetery, with Quattlebaum Brown-Service Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The body will lie in state at the home until an hour prior to services. Then it will be moved to the church. Survivors include his wife Mrs. Roxie Cofield Hendon of Wedowee; three sons, Wilson Hendon of Fayetteville, N. C., James Hendon of Oxford and Billy Hendon of Montgomery; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Hendon of Opelika and Mrs. Betty Mayfield of Savannah, Ga.; a brother, Grover Hendon of Carrolton, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Ussery of Rock Mills and 11 grandchildren. Mr. Hendon a well- known educator, was a mason and a member of Wedowee Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He had been a classroom teacher, school principal and superintendent of education for Randolph County.
