The Montgomery Advertiser
Wm Hightower, an old veteran of 1812, was found dead last Wednesday morning at 
his home lying on a chest at the foot of his bed. He was living alone; was as 
well as usual the day before. Mr. Hightower lived just over the line in Randolph 
County, on the old McIntosh road, that was cut by Gen. Jackson. Mr. H., we learn, 
was nearly one hundred years old. He was the first Sheriff of Randolph County, 
and a soldier of the war of 1812.
