What can be more conducive to the general welfare of a community than the truthful portrayal of such a character, by a friend, through the press? The departed and Christ-like life of an exemplary citizen I am now handing to The Leader. In the death of Jasper FINCHER an unostentatious but massive oak in the human forest of our community has fallen. In what way can a man glorify God, honor himself and his country more than having lived a quiet, peaceable, Christian life, raised a numerous family of children to manhood and womanhood who were noted for their meritorious Christian characters and loyal citizenship? He passed from this life to a better one in the Great Beyond with a character unstained and without an enemy in the world. Such was the life of Jasper FINCHER, whom I honored as a neighbor and friend for thirty years or more. Our families were cemented in a dearer tie by the union in marriage of his eldest son to my eldest daughter. The grief of my family because of the demise is closely allied to the sorrows of his own stricken household. In the true spirit of the Christ we weep with these weeping ones. His congregation will miss their departed deacon, though assured of his resting now and that his works will follow him. Peace to his ashes and a safe following on to his dear wife and children! G. O.
