Oliver WEATHERS, a good citizen of White’s Chapel [community], died Wednesday of cancer and was buried Thursday at Union Hill, after funeral services by his pastor, Rev. H. S. MATTHEWS. [From The Roanoke Leader (Randolph County, Alabama), 19 Apr 1911, p.8] ---------------------------- JAMES OLIVER WEATHERS ---------------------------- On the morning of April 12th, 1911, the weary spirit of Bro. Oliver WEATHERS was called from the cares of this life into the home prepared by our Lord for his faithful followers. He was born Jan. 27, 1876. He joined the M. E. Church, South, at White’s Chapel at an early age and remained a member until his death. During the last three years of his life he served as a steward of the church. Oliver was loved by all who knew him. He was never too busy to help a friend or neighbor. He always looked upon the bright side of life and tried to make those with whom he associated happy. Although the last few years of his life were marked with much physical suffering, he was never heard to murmur, but seemed to have implicit faith in God. We can’t claim for Bro. WEATHERS a perfect life, but we do claim that his life is worthy of emulation. J. C.
