OBITUARIES:

MARY GLADYS KIRBY

   (Wedowee)  Mrs. Mary Gladys Kirby, age 83, of Route 2, Wedowee, died Sunday 
Dec. 18, 1988, in Bryson City, N. C. after an extended illness.
   Mrs. Kirby was a native of Heard County, Ga. and had spent most of her life 
in Wedowee.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Wedowee and had been 
very active in her church and in the community.  She was a homemaker.
   Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lora K. Ponder of Cullowhee, N.C. and 
Mrs. Mary Tom Pyron of Scottsdale, Ariz.; six grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. 
Lois Stitt of Cullman, Mrs. Blanche Avery of Knoxville, Tenn., Mrs. Ruth 
Bartlett of Roanoke, and Mrs. Sara Wilson of Roanoke; and two sisters-in-law, 
Mrs. Hoke Green of Roanoke and Mrs. W. B. Green of Wedowee.
   Funeral services for Mrs. Kirby were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 
the First Baptist Church of Wedowee, the Rev. Kenneth Fuller officiating.  
Burial was in the Wedowee Masonic Cemetery. 
   Pallbearers were Jack Green, Don Green, Harold Wilson, William B. Green, 
Grant May and Thomas Kirby Ponder.
   Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Wedowee First Baptist Church.
   Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee, was in charge of arrangements.
   The family requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the 
Wedowee First Baptist Building Fund, to the church's Lottie Moon Christmas 
Offering, or to one's favorite charity.

[Mary Gladys is the daughter of Joseph Littleberry Green and Lora Allie Kirk.  
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Gladstone Kirby in 1973.]
