Roanoke Leader
 Mr. John Kirk, an old Confederate soldier, who was almost 86 years old, died at 
his home in Ashland Thursday. Funeral services were held at Almond Friday, where 
his membership had been all his life since joining the church when quite a boy. 
Interment was in Wadley in the family lot. Mr. Kirk had lived in this section 
until just a few years ago, when he moved to Ashland. His friends were numbered 
by all who knew him. His wife died about one year ago. He is survived by three 
daughters and four sons.
