The Columbus Ledger
A 12-year-old boy from small community near Roanoke Ala died Saturday night at 
The Medical Center after being shot in the head in an apparent hunting accident, 
earlier in the day near his home. Officials at The Medical Center in Columbus 
where the boy was brought for treatment identified him as Wiley Knopes 12 of 
Wadley Community near Roanoke. Floyd Mitchell administrator of the Randolph 
County (Ala) Hospital where the boy was first taken said he apparently was shot 
while hunting with his younger brother. First reports of the accident indicated 
the boy had been shot with a shotgun, but Mitchell said he was told that the 
wound was caused with a 22-caliber rifle.
