Mr. Lovvorn was a native of Randolph County and a former resident of Sylacauga who, upon retirement, returned to Woodland in 1969. Mr. Lovvorn was superintendent of education in Randolph County in the 30's. He served as principal in the Talladega County school system for 25 years. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Auburn University. Mr. Lovvorn was a member of the Randolph County Retired Teachers Association and was serving as president during this year. He was a member of the Woodland Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star and was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. Prior to his death he was serving as chairman of the Randolph County Democratic Executive committee, a member of the State Democratic Executive Committee, and chairman of the board of deacons of Zion Baptist Church. He had been a Baptist deacon for the past 48 years. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Lila McCarley Lovvorn of Woodland; two daughters, Mrs. Anita L. Dark of Sylacauga and Mrs. Patricia L. Bivin of Birmingham; one son; Nance Lovvorn of Birmingham; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Merrill of Birmingham and Mrs. Carrie L. Stewart of Sylacauga; two brothers, Albert Lovvorn and Melvin Lovvorn, both of Woodland; and six grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Lovvorn were held at three o'clock Sunday afternoon at Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. George Smitherman and the Rev. Bryant Strain officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Desmond L. Merrill, Earl McCarley, Dr. Roy L. Lovvorn, Fred Lovvorn, Thomas McCarley, and Don Strain. Honorary pallbearers were Gideons and the deacons and members of the Senior Adult Men's Sunday School class of Zion Baptist Church. The family suggested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, the Gideons, or one's favorite charity.
