Primm (ROANOKE) Services for Dr. Chester B. Primm, 85, of Roanoke, will be Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Roanoke Church of Christ, with Bro. Gerald Romine and Bro. Sam Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Roanoke Church of Christ from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday. Dr. Primm died Thursday, Feb. 24, at Traylor Nursing Home, Roanoke. Survivors include one daughter, Susan Farris of Nashville, Tenn.; one son, Tommy Primm of Brentwood, Tenn.; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Farris, Glenn Carpenter, Bill Caypless, Stanley Cofield, Bruce Davis, Bryan Kirby, Paul Romine, Roy Beenett and Johnny Wallace. Honorary pallbearers will be the men and women of Roanoke Church of Christ and past and present staff of Randolph County Hospital. Dr. Primm was born Jan. 11, 1920, son of James Cevere and Lou Ethel McPherson Primm. He was a member of Roanoke Church of Christ, which he served as an elder for many years, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Dr. Primm was a graduate of Walker College, attended Samford University, and graduated from Medical College of Alabama in Birmingham. He did his residency at Erlanger Hospital and at Campbell's Clinic Hospital in Chattanooga. He began his medical practice May 1, 1955, at the Knight Sanatorium in Roanoke and joined the medical staff at Randolph County Hospital in 1957. He and Mrs. Primm were avid Band Boosters for the Handley High School Band. Dr. Primm retired after 42 years of service to the citizens of Randolph County and surrounding areas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Faye Nelson Primm. She worked as a winder in the textile indus­try for Russell Mills for most of her life and was a member of the Revival Center Church. She is survived by one son Larry Hudson and wife Mary of Jackson's Gap; two grandchildren and five great-grandchil­dren. She was preceded in death by her parents Louie and Katie Bozeman; her husband, Houston Cobb; and one brother, James Bozeman. Mrs. Williams died Friday, Feb. 25, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ruth Huntley of Cooskia, Idaho; two sons, James Williams of Roanoke and Harvey J. Williams of Enterprise; 12 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven step- great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great- grandchildren. Mrs. Williams was born Dec. 24, 1914, daughter of John James and Mary Lee Beals. She was a member of Roanoke Church of the Nazarene. Poole of Oak Park; nine children, Deborah Merriweather of Detroit, Mich., Karen Garner and Howard Poole Jr. of Wilmington, N.C., Kenneth Poole of Atlanta, Bernard Poole of Laurenburg, N.C., Howard McFarlin of Roanoke and Charlie B. She was a lifelong resident of Chambers County and a retired employee of West Point Pepperell with more than 41 years of service. She was a member of Fairfax First Christian Church, W.M.U. and Ladies Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyce C. Patton. Mr. Alsobrook was born Aug. 4, 1951, in LaGrange, Ga. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam era. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church, Elm City Lodge #544 F&AM, and the Scottish Rite, 32nd degree. Mr. Alsobrook was an electrician and owned and operated Electrical Service Company. He was preceded in death by his father, James Robert Alsobrook. Mrs. Battles was born in Floyd County, Ga., on February 7, 1920, daughter of the late John William Beam and the late Annie Bell Lemming Beam. She was a homemaker and a member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church in Rome. Mrs. Battles was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Battles Sr. on April 29, 1999; three sisters, Ruby Chambers, Mrs. Buford Garner and Olivia Chumbley; and two brothers, Henry Beam and Sherman Beam. Survivors include a son, Carl Battles Jr. of Wedowee; two grandchildren; four great-granddaughters: two sisters, Josephine Evans of Silver Creek, Ga., and Mablene Jenkins of Trion, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Foster was born in Cashmere, Wash., daughter of the late Arthur Melvin Lobe and the late Marie Loeffelbein Lobe Milbrath. Mrs. Foster was formerly married to Valdon Jasper Foster and was the mother of six children. She attended Deaconess School of Nursing in Wenatchee, Wash. and had a career in retail management. She was a member of Houston Avenue Christian Church in Macon, Ga. Born Sept. 29, 1921, in Chambers County, Mrs. Beard was the 13th of 15 children born to the late Sam and Ellen Matthews. She joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, LaFayette, at an early age. After moving to Chantilly, Va., she moved her membership to Chantilly Baptist Church, where she served as chairperson of the deaconess board and sang in the choir. Mr. House enjoyed spending time with his family, collecting antique cars and woodwork­ing, and he always wanted to be helpful to others. He was a veteran of World War II and was the owner of the House Plumbing Company. Mr. House was a blessing to all who knew him. Lamar Wadsworth of LaGrange, Ga., died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange. Mr. Wadsworth was born March 13, 1928, in LaGrange and was the son of the late Lawrence W. Wadsworth and Mary Salmon Wadsworth. He lived in LaGrange all his life and was a graduate of LaGrange High School and attended Perry Business School and West Georgia Technical Institute. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Georgia National Guard. Mr. Wadsworth was a retired manager of the Eli Witt Company and owner of Wadsworth Vending Company. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Highland Country Club, Academy of Model Aeronautics, the USTA and the Dulcimer Troopers. He was an avid tennis player. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Leroy Wadsworth. Survivors include his wife, Jennie M. Wadsworth; two sons, Vance D. Wadsworth of Bradenton, Fla., and Michael L. Mrs. Wright was a native of Baxley, Ga. For more than 20 years, she was employed as a home health aide with the Randolph County Home Health division of the Randolph County Health Department. She was a dedicated member of Abundant Life Christian Church. She is survived by four sons, Master Sgt. Dr. Lovvorn was born in Woodland on Jan. 24, 1910, and was a graduate of Auburn University, the University of Missouri and the University of Wisconsin. He began his professional career with the Missouri Agricultural Extension Service and the US Soil Conservation Service. In 1936 he accepted a position as assistant professor in the Department of Agronomy at what is now North Carolina State University. He resigned in 1950 to accept a position as director of the Division of Weed Investigations, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Beltsville, Md. In 1953 he returned to NC State as director of instruction in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He was director of the Agricultural Experiment Station from 1955 until 1969, when he became administrator of the Cooperative State Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Washington, D.C. He retired in 1976 and returned to live in Raleigh. During his professional years he was named Tarheel of the Week in the News and Observer, Man of the Year in Service to North Carolina Agriculture from the Progressive Farmer and an International Gamma Sigma Delta award for Distinguished Service to Agriculture. His life is chronicled in From a Log Cabin to the Nation's Capital, an autobiography. Following retirement he traveled with his wife, Virginia, in a number of countries, serving many as a consultant in agricultural research. In Raleigh he served on the Wake County Library Commission, was president of the North Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and other orga­nizations. He was also active at Springmoor Retirement Community, serving as president of the Residents Association and as manager of the Community Store for several years. He was a member of Alpha Zeta, Gamma Sigma Delta, Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma XI, as well as a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He was selected for membership in the Cosmos Club of Washington, D.C., for his many scientific contributions and accomplishments. His membership in the Rotary Club of Raleigh covered more than 50 years, and he was honored with a Paul Harris Fellowship. He was a long- time member of the NCSU University Club and had served on the board of deacons of Pullen Memorial Baptist Church and Greystone Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Greystone Baptist Church. Dr. Lovvorn was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Virginia, who died in June 2003 after suffering from Alzheimer's for many years. Mr. Cobb was a lifelong resident of Cleburne County and a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. __________ Susie Mann Miles (FIVE POINTS) Services for Susie Mann Miles, 83, of Five Points were held Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Sonny Kent and the Rev. Adam Bishop officiating. Burial followed at Rocky Mount Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Miles died Saturday, March 26, at Bethany House in Auburn. Survivors include her husband, J.T. "Jake" Miles of Five Points; three daughters, Sue Sheppard of LaFayette, Ann Beldsoe of West Point, Ga., and Phyllis Harris of Auburn; five sons, Hewell Bishop of Woodland, Tommy Bishop of Midland, Ga., Frank Bishop of Daviston, Darrell Bishop of Lanett and Wayne Miles of Five Points; two brothers, Grady Mann of Langdale and J.T. Mann of New Site; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Miles was born Jan. 18, 1922, daughter of Joseph Minnon and Susie Willoughby Mann. She was employed with West Point Pepperell. Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke. __________ Wylee Burl Yates (MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho) Wylee Burl Yates, 75, of Mountain Home, Idaho, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at a Boise hospital. Memorial services were at 5 p.m. Monday, March 28, at Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. Wylee chose to be cremated and his remains will be interred beside his mother and father in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Woodland. A memorial service will be Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church with Bro. David Daniel officiating. Cremation is under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. Mr. Yates was born Oct. 29, 1929, in Randolph County, the only child of Guy Leberus and Mary Jim Rampy Yates. His father was a taxicab owner/driver in Roanoke. His dad tragically died July 20, 1940. Wylee's mother was a beautiful lady and a talented beautician. She needed help caring for young Wylee after her husband's death, so he lived with his grandmother Ella Yates and Aunt Inez Yates. Wylee joined the U.S. Army and served as a medic during the Korean War. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart. He graduated from Boise State University, bought a home and settled in Mountain Home. He is survived by two aunts, Lois Rampy of Anniston and Mac Rampy of Piedmont; a host of cousins; and a dear friend, Myrna Gonzales. He was preceded in death by his parents. __________ Celestine B. Heard (WADLEY) Celestine B. Heard, 78, of 1754 County Road 838, Wadley, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke. Services were Tuesday, March 29, at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Wadley, with the Revs. Cornelius Reese, Timothy Heard and James Carlisle officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Burial followed at Lineville City Cemetery with Clay County Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Whaley died Tuesday, March 22, at University Hospital in Birmingham. He was a native of Randolph County, but had been a resident of Lineville most of his life. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed at Anniston Army Depot as a mechanic. He was a member of East Alabama Antique Farm Equipment Club and Lineville Church of Christ, where he was the song director and had previously served as a deacon. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley Whaley of Lineville; a daughter, Donna Adamson of Lineville; a son Ricky Whaley; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister Maggie Dollar of Warner Robbins, Ga.; and a brother Grover Whaley of Anniston. Tony Gunter officiat­ing. Mrs. Phillips died Tuesday, March 22, at Marshall Medical Center in Boaz. Survivors are a special niece, Joyce Baird of Boaz, and several other nieces and nephews. Donald Wayne Parker Sr., 52, of LaGrange, Ga., died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at Hospice LaGrange. Mr. Parker was born Sept. 8, 1952, in LaGrange, son of Charlie Parker Jr. of Franklin, Ga., and the late Nira McRae Parker. He was a lifelong resident and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Beech Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Parker was employed with the LaGrange Housing Authority, where he worked in the maintenance department. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Wyatt Parker. Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Margaret J. Parker of LaGrange; a daughter, Aprile Jean Parker of Beulah; two sons, Donald Wayne Parker Jr. and Donald Eugene Parker, both of LaGrange; his stepmother, Era Parker of Franklin; two sisters, Shelia Beard of Franklin and Sharon Pierson of Rock Mills; five brothers, Hugh Parker and Lee Parker of Cleveland, Tenn., Ken Parker of LaGrange, Vernon Parker of Franklin and Jeff Parker of Biloxi, Miss.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Burial was March 16 in Missouri. Mr. Jacobs was born Sept. 17, 1911, in Cleburne County, Ala. Survivors include two sons, John Jacobs of Woodland and Dan Jacobs of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one daughter, Jo Alice Mospan of Woodland; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife and mother of his chil­dren, Mary P. Jacobs; two sons, Bobby H. Jacobs and a stillborn infant; one grandson, Kevin Jacobs; and two brothers, Homer L.
