NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, November 13, 1908

Mr. J.C. Mayfield who resides just over the line in Alabama, was shot and 
killed near Rock Mills on Saturday afternoon by Mr. Seab Hendrick of this 
county. The fracas was an unfortunate one, the gentlemen being friends. We 
understand that no arrest has been made and that Mayfield, before his death, 
requested that Henderick not be prosecuted. It seems that both men were 
drinking and that Hendrick shot in self defense. The Franklin News and 
Banner, the 6th inst.
