McCollum, 70, of Roanoke, passed away in a local hospital at 7 Tuesday morning, August 30. Mr. McCollum is survived by the wife, Mrs. Mary Jane McCollum; two sons: Orval McCollum, Macon, Ga., and Omer McCollum, of Lineville; five daughters: Mrs. Eunice Mitchell, Rock Mills, Mrs. Bernice Nelson, Five Points, Mrs. Eva Ramsey, Roanoke, Mrs. Alma Amason. LaGrange, and Mrs. Addie Burch Perry Roanoke; one brother. Jim McCollum, Hanceville; one sister, Mrs. Sallie Harvill, Heflin; fifteen grandchildren and a large number of other near relatives. Mr. McCollum had been a resident of Roanoke the past five years and had been a resident of 1 Randolph County his entire life. He moved from the Mt. Prospect community when he retired from active duties as a farmer and gin operator. He was widely known and respected by all who came in contact with him and had been a member of the Mt. Prospect Church forty-one years. Funeral services were held from the Mt. Prospect Baptist Church at 11 Thursday morning, September 1. The Revs. C. B. Martin, W. A. Martin, J. P. Bean, Lynward Amberson, K. V. McDonald, and B. W. McDonald, all of Lineville officiated. Pallbearers were Charlie May, Larkin Carden, Jesse Harvell, Clarence Smith, Avery Cunningham, and F. L. Whitten. Interment was in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Roanoke Funeral Home directing.
