The Randolph County Grand Jury in session since Monday today began an 
investigaton into av pistol duel between two brothers-in-law Tuesday afternoon 
that resulted in the death of one of them. Jim Tom McKeen, aged 40, was fatally 
shot by his wife's brother, Tom Wortham who was arrested shortly after the 
shooting and lodged in the county Jail here, Sheriff R.O. Beverly said that his 
investigation revealed that the two men met at Roberts store in the northern 
section of Randolph County Tuesday afternoon and that they engaged in a dispute. 
The sheriff said that he learned there was some domestic difficulty prior to the 
dispute Tuesday afternoon. According to witnesses, the sheriff said McKeen fired 
six times at Wortham none of the bullets taking effect. Wortham the sheriff was 
told, fired twice the second bullet taking effect in the heart, bringing instant 
death. Sheriff Beverly said it was his information that the two men lived near 
the Robert's store. He said that no explanation had been found for each having a 
pistol in his possession.
