Pierce McMurray. The end came rather suddenly Monday night at his home on the farm he had purchased on High Pine creek five miles west of Roanoke. The remains were brought to the home of the brother of the deceased, Mr. Wm. H. McMurray, in Roanoke, where funeral services were held at 10 o'clock this morning, conducted by Rev. T. L. McDonald. Interment was in the cemetery of this city. Mr. McMurray was born and reared in this section, being a member of one of the oldest and best families of Randolph County. He was a man of fine business ability and of a clever, likeable disposition. He was a member of the Methodist church and was 58 years of age, lacking six days. Nearly two years ago Mr. McMurray lost his wife, who was formerly Miss Sallie Pool, and this loss seemed to have much- to do with his gradual decline. He had been in wretched physical condition for many months. While his death was not entirely unlooked for, yet the clouds which overshadowed the closing of the life of this genial-hearted gentleman form a pathetic picture. But the lone and forlorn traveler had expressed the wish that he might pass on in the quest of peace and rest on the other shore. His memory will be tenderly cherished by those who loved him as they walked together in the better days.
