A self-inflicted bullet wound proved fatal early today to a 22-year-old man who 
turned Oxford into an armed camp last night by firing his pistol at a police 
officer and residents. Oxford Police Chief Charles R. (Bob) Hodges said Kirby G. 
Meadows told him and others he had shot himself after a chase which brought in 
police, Sheriff Roy C. Snead and deputies, Highway Patrolmen and armed 
citizens......
Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Harmony 
Methodist Church in Randolph County with the Rev. Mr. Lewis officiating. Burial 
will be the church cemetery Quattlebaum Funeral Home directing. Survivors 
include the widow; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Meadows; the grandparents, 
Mr. and Mrs. W. Z. Meadows of Graham and Mr. and Mrs. Rove Lovvorn of Newell: 
and three brothers, Aaron and Gilbert of Newell and Joe Bob Meadow of Graham.
