Services for Mrs. Hattie K. Messer, 81, of Wedowee, were Friday at Levens 
Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Walls officiating. Burial was in the 
adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge. Mrs. Messer 
died Wednesday at Randolph County Hospital. Survivors include two daughters, 
Mrs. Ruby Cofield of Newell and Mrs. Freddie Sue Reaves of Wedowee; a son, James 
Edward Messer of LaGrange, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Ruby Victoria Kitchens of 
Wedowee; three brothers, Harris Kitchens of Roanoke, Warren Hardin Kitchens of 
Wedowee and Dave Kitchens of West Palm Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren and two 
greatgrandchildren. Pallbearers were Mark Edwards, Darren White, David Phillips, 
Ferrell Cofield, Doug Butler, John Butler and Tommy Messer. Mrs. Messer was a 
lifelong resident of Randolph County and a member of Levens Baptist Church. She 
was a Gold Star Wife and a homemaker.
