This has been a sad day for Roanoke Two of her loved citizens have passed "into 
the valley of the shadow of death". On yesterday morning at 6 o’clock the mother 
of President Jones of our college quietly and painlessly laid down the struggle 
of life God’s hand touched her, and she slept the sleep of death. Her age was 
seventy-six years and a few days.
At 2 o'clock this morning Mrs. Brooks Moon, daughter of our old friend and 
citizen Mr. Samuel Fausett and sister to Editor Fausett of the Roanoke Herald, 
died She had been ill for some time and her death was not unexpected. Both of 
these ladies were members of the Baptist church at this place and the funeral 
services were conducted by their pastor Rev J. P. Shaffer in an impressive and 
eloquent manner. The sympathies of our whole people are with the bereaved 
families.
