Dr. Moore died Monday in the Wesley Woods Health Care Center in Atlanta after a five-month illness. Under Dr. Moore's leadership, the Christian Council moved from a primarily ministerial group to an organization including laymen and laywomen and crossing geographical, social, economic, racial and denominational lines. He also encouraged some of the top business and professional leadership of Atlanta to become involved in the work of the council. A native of Wedowee, Dr Moore graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College and Candler School of Theology. He did graduate work at Columbia University and earned his doctor- ate at Union Theological Seminary. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate by the Tokyo Theological Seminary in Japan. He became an Army "chaplain in 1941, shortly after World War II began.... Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Stone Moore; daughter, Mrs. Joyce Mertz of Orlando, Fla.; sons, Dr. David H. Moore, U.S. Army, Atlanta; Dr. Steven Moore, U.S. Army, Eisenhower Medical Center, and James H. Moore of Longwood; a sister, Miss Myrtle L. Moore of Birmingham, Ala.; and brothers, James C. Moore of Turlock, Calif, M.E. Moore of Fredonia, Ala, and the Rev. Charles 0. Moore of Birmingham, Ala.
