ALGenWeb File Manager - Carolyn Golowka -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by William Fischer, Jr. March 2001 MRS. W. COFIELD DIED THURSDAY ---------------------------- After many months of patient suffering Mrs. W. W. COFIELD [Mary A. COFIELD, 10 Jun 1849--3 Sep 1920] passed from this earth last Thursday night at her home in this place [Roanoke] at the age of 71 years. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the Baptist church, of which the deceased was a member. Large numbers of friends were present, many bringing floral offerings, attesting their esteem for the dead and their sympathy for the living. Revs. C. W. STITT, C. OREAR and I. F. HAWKINS had part in the services, the latter delivering a most comforting discourse, in which he protrayed [sic] the fine characteristics of this good christian [sic] woman, who joined the church in early childhood. Mrs. COFIELD was married fifty-five years ago, her husband being a heroic soldier of the Cross and of the Confederacy. Nine children were born to them, six of whom are living. These are Rev. W. P. COFIELD, Mrs. Clara WHITAKER, H. C. COFIELD, Mrs. S. V. [Susan Viola COFIELD] WIDNER [15 May 1869--7 Sep 1952], W. T. COFIELD, Mrs. Mary E. REED. A large number of the family connections came to pay tribute to the good old mother, who was loved by all who knew her. Her memory will be cherished as a sacred heritage by her children, upon whom she left the impress of her Godly life. ------------------------- CARD OF THANKS ------------------------- We take this method of expressing to our dear friends and neighbors our deepest and most sincere appreciation for their unstinted and ceaseless kindness and help rendered us during the sickness and death of our dear wife and mother. May our heavenly Father’s richest benedictions abide your every footstep and give to you a crown of rejoicing in the clime of unending glory. W. W. COFIELD [30 Nov 1848--1 Dec 1929] and Children [From The Roanoke Leader (Randolph County, Alabama), 8 Sep 1920, p.1]
