Lineville Headlight
Vinus New, 16, who lived with his parents on the east side of the river at Lee's 
Bridge in Randolph County was drowned about 3 p. m. Monday. It is said the boy 
couldn't swim and someone was teaching him when he got in deep water. He was 
rescued about 45 minutes later, but life could not be resuscitated by artificial 
respiration. Dr. J. Poland and his son were near the scene and made every effort 
to bring the boy back to life. Burial was Wednesday at Union Hill in Randolph 
County. This was the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Jim New.
