Jere Heflin colored, was on trial, last week, in our Circuit Court, for the 
murder of Howard Patillo, last summer. He had made a bond of $8000 for his 
appearance. and when his case was called, on Friday, he was on hand. When court 
adjourned Friday night, the testimony had all been taken. On Saturday morning the 
case was resumed, and argument was opened, when it was found that the defendant 
was not on hand, and on investigation it was ascertained that during the night he 
had absconded.
