Roanoke Leader
Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Payne, 92, widow of the late D. M. C. Payne, died at the 
home of her son, J. W. Payne, in Wedowee January 23rd and was buried Wednesday at 
Liberty Grove. There are six. living children (three boys and three girls) and 
six dead (three boys and three girls). In addition, there are 49 surviving 
grandchildren, 99 greatgrandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Several 
grandchildren are dead. Surviving children are J. W. Payne, of Wedowee, Mrs. 
Docia Key, of Roanoke, Mack Payne, of Daviston, Mrs. Rena Fields, of West Point, 
C. M. Payne, of Newell, and Mrs. Robert Camp, of Newell.
