OBITUARIES:

WILLIAM ELMER PHILLIPS

   (Dalzell, S. C.) William Elmer Phillips, age 72, of Dalzell, S. C. died 
Tuesday, Nov 10, 1987, at the Tuomey Hospital.
   Born near Roanoke, Ala., he was a son of the late Fred and Mamie Crowder 
Phillips.
   Mr. Phillips was a member of Dalzell Baptist Church.  He was a graduate of 
the University of Alabama and was a retired farmer, an accountant for the TVA 
in Chattanooga, Tenn., and a World War II Navy veteran.
   Survivors include his wife, Billie Phillips of the home; a daughter, Jan 
Phillips Plowden of Sumter; two brothers, J. P. and Leon Phillips, both of 
Roanoke, AL; a sister Mary Benefield of Memphis, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.
   Services were at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill Funeral Home, 
Sumter, S. C. with the Rev. Eugene Franklin officiating.  Burial was in 
Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
   Pallbearers were Frank Phillips, Phillip Ashley, Billy Thomas, Timothy 
Carroll, Donald Johnson and Steve Cato.
