Ashland Progress
James Arthur Phillips, 43-year-old resident of McCollum community, died Saturday, 
May 13. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at Wesley Chapel 
church. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. S. P. Bean and Rev. W. A. 
Martin officiated with Blair directing. Mr. Phillips was born May 28, 1907. He 
joined the Christian Congregationalist church at Wesley Chapel at the age of 20. 
He married in 1931. Surviving are four children, three brothers and four sisters. 
Pallbearers were: Joel A. Poole, Claudis Rollins, James A. Norton, Harry 0. 
Sontag, Reginald Henry, and John Coggins. Honorary pallbearers were: Louis H. 
Nowland, O. B. Johns, Woodle R. Poland, Cameron W. Bacon, Charles w. Cargile, 
Charles W. Holley, Don L. Gerred, and James S. Patterson.
